Exploring the environment

Today when I entered the classroom I saw Ariam, After a moment and ran to me and
said “teacher Fauzia” and hugged me. I asked Ariam ‘did you miss me?’ and you
replied ‘yes’, I missed you too Ariam. All of the teachers here made the centre
environment feel homely so that the children feel comfortable and happy.
It was a sunny and warm day today, so we decided to take advantage of it and enjoy
the beautiful weather in Dunedin. As soon as the children came outside they started
to run around. Ariam and Yusuf ran towards the sandpit area. Ariam loves to play with
sand, digging, filling up the basket and emptying it. It was wonderful to observe
children keep themselves busy with different activities. After a while, Ariam decided
to do some sweeping around the sandpit area using the dustpan and dusters.
In our learning environment, teachers encourage children to make their own choices.
Through these activities, we can see Ariam was able to make her own decisions.
Ariam cares for the environment by sweeping the sand around the playground, well
done Ariam. We will continue to provide opportunities for Ariam to actively explore
the environment, and to further improve her sensorial experiences.
