Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 2

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to:

 Identify appropriate unit of mass (in gram or kilogram and their abbreviations g
or kg) in measuring a particular object.

 Estate the difference between the appropriate unit of mass (gram and kilogram)

 Appreciate the value of sharing one’s own experience.

1. Review
Before we start our lesson for today, let us
review our past lesson last week . What
have we studied last week?

Last week we had studied how to

measure length.

Very good so what are the unit of length we

can use to measure a particular object?

We use the unit centimeter (cm) and

meters (m) to measure a particular
object.

When are we going to use centimeter?

Centimeter (cm) is used to measure

What about meter? short objects

Meter (m) is used to measure long

objects.
Very good, now let’s try this game.
Measuring Time.

Do you know who he is?

He is Vice Ganda teacher.

Let's help Vice Ganda to measure the
length of a particular object using
centimeter or meter.

Amazing grade 2. Now lets do our very

good clap for a job well done.

2. Drill

Do you know what is this?

That is a weighing scale teacher.

Yes, correct. Now I’m going to show some
object then tell me which of these object is
lighter and heavier. And then put those object
on these weighing scale to observe if it is lighter
or heavier.

a. a small sachet of milk or a big pack of milk

Which is lighter? Which is heavier? Lighter Heavier

b. one piece of banana or 12 pieces of bananas Small sachet of Big sachet of milk
milk
Which is lighter? Which is heavier? 1 pc banana 12 pcs. banana

c. plastic of cotton and plastic of rice Cotton Rice

Which is lighter? Which is heavier?

3. Motivation

Now, class are you familiar of these pictures?

And when and where do we usually see these
instrument?
Teacher those are weighing scale and we
usually saw them in the market or sari-
sari store. It us usually use to measure
the good that we are buying.

What does this weighing scale measured?

Weighing scale measured the mass of an

object.

What are the things measured using a weighing

scale?
Teacher some things measured by
weighing scale are fish meat, fruits and
rice.
Great! Have you experience being measured
on any of these weighing scales? Or have seen
this weighing scale? Where and when?
Anybody who could share their experience.

(sharing of experiences)

B. Developmental Activities

1. Presentation/Discussion
Now let’s watch this video. This video is about
Amber the squirrel and her family. She is going
to explain to us how we can identify and use
appropriate unit of mass in measuring a
particular object.

Did you enjoy our video?

Yes, teacher
I have a question.
What is the measure of mass and what does it
shows? Weight is the measure of mass. It shows
the weight of an object.

What is the standard unit of mass?

The standard unit of mass is kilogram

How does light object weighed or measured?

Light object is weighted by gram

What is the abbreviation of gram?

Small letter g teacher

Look at your bag which object there can be

weighted by gram?
(looking for a light object)

How does heavy object weighed?

Heavy object is weighted by kilogram

What is the abbreviation of kilogram?

The abbreviation of kilogram is kg
teacher.
Look around us which object here can be
weighted by kilogram?
(looking for a heavy object)

Now let’s go back to the objects that we saw

earlier.

A. a small sachet of milk or a big pack of milk

b. one piece of banana or 12 pieces of

bananas
c. plastic of cotton and plastic of rice

Which is lighter? What unit to use?

Small sachet of milk, 1 piece of banana
and a plastic of cotton are lighter and we
are going to use gram.

Which is heavier? What unit do we need to use?

Heavier objects are big pack of milk, 12
pieces of banana and plastic of rice and
we are going to use kilogram as unit.
Fantastic grade 2.

2. Group Activities
Group 1 and group 2 lets try a game. This is
Weight me and tell me. In this game what you
are going to do is to tell if what unit, is it gram or Pack of biscuit
kilogram should we used on the particular Rice
objects that your leader is going to weight using Tomato
our weighing scale. Group mates have to raise Banana
their hand and answer one by one. Do not Candy
shout or I will lessen your score. I have Pack of cofee
amazing prices to the group winner. Vegetable
Cotton
Toys
Nails
Cheese
Sugar
Book
School bag
pencil

Are you ready?

Yes teacher

3. Generalization

Congratulations to all of you kids. You all did a

great job. You can claim your prices later
alright.

Let’s have another recap.

What is the measure of mass and what does it

shows?

Weight is the measure of mass. It shows

the weight of an object.
What is the difference between the appropriate
unit of mass (gram and kilogram )?

Teacher gram is use in weighing light

object while kilogram is use in weighing
heavy object.
Great!

What is the abbreviation of gram?

Small letter g teacher.

What is the abbreviation of kilogram?

The abbreviation of kilogram is kg
teacher.

4. Application

Now lets go shopping I have here my

cartoon characters supermarket and what
you are going to do is to pick a character
and there inside is an item then identify and
put it on push cart if it is measured by gram
and put on the basket if it measured by
kilogram.
5. Evaluation
Identify if it is gram or kilogram that should be
use in measuring the given objects. Box the
correct answer.

2.
g
3.

III. Assignment:

On your notebook, draw 3 objects that can be weighted by kilogram (kg) and 2
objects that can be measured by gram (g) then name the object and label it (g or
kg).
