PROJECT DESCRIPTION FOR BFC 10502 CIVIL ENGINEERING MATERIALS

The PROJECT carries a 20% contribution to the whole Course.

The PROJECT is divided into 2 sections:

SECTION 1 : GROUP REPORT (DUE DATE: 7 NOVEMBER 2019)

 The length of the report shall be in the range of 10 to 20 pages.


 The contents of the report must be numbered systematically.
 The format of the report must be technical and professional.
 The language must be well written English.
 No excessive “copy-paste” is allowed. Any “copy-paste” must be well cited and reference given
in a Reference chapter.
 All figures and tables must be numbered systematically and cited in the text.
 The report must be ring bound and submitted on 7 NOVEMBER 2019. Late submission is not
acceptable.

Assessment criteria for SECTION 1:

 Contents demonstrating cognitive knowledge of the given topic (5%).


 Psychomotor skill to manage and deliver the knowledge in a systematic, well organized, and
professionally written format (5%).

SECTION 2 : VIDEO PRESENTATION (DUE DATE: WEEK 14)

 The duration of the presentation shall be no longer than 10 minutes.


 The contents of the presentation must be submitted in a CD.

Assessment criteria for SECTION 2:

 Affective values rated in the form of team work (5%).


 Effectiveness of presentation in delivering the given topic (5%).
TOPICS FOR PROJECT

1. The effect of cement size on the physical properties


2. The effect of cement size on the mechanical properties
3. The effect of aggregate size on the concrete performance
4. The effect of mineralogy of coarse aggregate on the concrete strength.
5. The influence of fine aggregate on the mortar properties
6. Physical, chemical and mineralogy properties of pozzolanic material, such as Fly ash.
7. Physical, chemical and mineralogy properties of pozzolanic material, such as Coal Bottom Ash.
8. Physical, chemical and mineralogy properties of pozzolanic material, such as Palm Oil Fuel Ash.
9. Physical, chemical and mineralogy properties of pozzolanic material, such as Rice Husk Ash.
10. The use of natural/waste material in the production of High strength concrete.
11. The use of natural/waste material in the production of lightweight concrete.
12. The use of natural material in the manufacturing of brick.
