TOP TOPICS TO STUDY

(Sep-12-2019)

CO-PRIME:
When two numbers have no common factors other than 1.
21 and 22 are coprime:
• The factors of 21 are 1, 3, 7 and 21
• The factors of 22 are 1, 2, 11 and 22
(the only common factor is 1)

But 21 and 24 are NOT coprime:

• The factors of 21 are 1, 3, 7 and 21
• The factors of 24 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 24
(the common factors are 1 AND 3)
Also called "relatively prime" or "mutually prime".

PRIME & COMPOSITE NUMBER:

A prime number has only two factors: 1 and itself.
A composite number has more than two factors.
The number 1 is neither prime nor composite.
The factors of 2 are 1 x 2. 2 is prime.
The factors of 9 are 1 x 9, 3 x 3. 9 is composite.

HCF:
Highest common factor (H.C.F) of two or more numbers is the greatest number
which divides each of them exactly.

1. Find the highest common factor (H.C.F) of 6 and 9.

=> Factors of 6 = 1, 2, 3 and 6.
=> Factors of 9 = 1, 3 and 9.
Therefore, common factor of 6 and 9 = 1 and 3.
Highest common factor (H.C.F) of 6 and 9 = 3.
Therefore, 3 is H.C.F. or G.C.D. greatest common divisor of 6 and 9.

RATIONAL NUMBER:
A rational number is a number that can be in the form p/q
where p and q are integers and q is not equal to zero.

So, a rational number can be:

p
q

Where q is not zero.

√2
(square root of 2) is not a rational number.
1.5 is a rational number because 1.5 = 3/2 (3 and 2 are both integers)

INTEGER: A number with no fractional part (no decimals).

Includes:
• the counting numbers {1, 2, 3, ...},
• zero {0},
• and the negative of the counting numbers {-1, -2, -3, ...}

We can write them all down like this: {..., -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, ...}

Examples of integers: -16, -3, 0, 1, 198A number with no fractional part (no decimals).

REAL NUMBER AND INTEGERS: Real numbers include integers, rational, irrational, natural, and
whole numbers. On the other hand, integers' scope is mainly concerned with whole numbers which are
negative and positive. Hence, real numbers
The letters R, Q, N, and Z refers to a set of numbers such that:
R = real numbers includes all real number [-inf, inf]

Q= rational numbers ( numbers written as ratio)

N = Natural numbers (all positive integers starting from 1. (1,2,3....inf)

z = integers ( all integers positive and negative ( -inf, ...,
