Problems and solutions in quantum mechanics
Preface
Nobody understands quantum mechanics it is the famous statement of Richard Feynman.
He claims that we just compromise with quantum mechanics but unable to understand it. It
means that we can solve different quantum problems such as schrodinger wave equation but we
have difficulty with the bases of quantum mechanics. The most important challenge is the
existence of the objective reality which our mind knows it obviously. The meaning of the
objective reality is that beyond all physics laws and independent of observer, there is a fact
which is exists even if we do not observe it. Quantum dose not admit the existence of such a
fact; how can prove the existence of such a fact? This was the main reason that Einstein refused
to accept the quantum theory.
Prof. Dr. M. Lamehi-Rachti (Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences, Tehran, Iran)
believes that if there was no observer, then there was no reality; the observer is part of the
interpretation of reality; there is no reality independent of us; if we do not exist, the reality does
not exist, too. In the other world, the quantum theory is humanistic 1.
Prof. Dr. M. Golshani (Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran) believes that we have
not any evidence that quantum theory is complete; even there are some reasons that it is
incomplete. Some great physicists are waiting for a revolution in understanding the nature
without the common quantum theory2.
Is this just a pure philosophical discussion? Some body thinks so, and as they can solve
quantum problems and equations, they are satisfied.
The purpose of this book is to achieve skills to solve quantum mechanics problems. Perhaps
facing and solving various problems give us a better sense of quantum theory, of course perhaps!
All problems are selected from different quantum text books and also final exams of
different universities.
