1. Dani u tjednu: Monday (Mo / Mon), Tuesday (Tu / Tue / Tues), Wednesday (We /
Wed), Thursday (Th / Thu / Thurs), Friday (Fr / Fri), Saturday (Sa / Sat), Sunday (Su /
Sun).
3. Mjeseci: January (Jan.), February (Feb.), March (Mar.), April (Apr.), May, June
(Jun. / June), July (Jul. / July), August (Aug.), September (Sept.), October (Oct.),
November (Nov.), December (Dec.). Iza ovih skraćenica engleskog jezika piši točku!
4. Godine: možemo pisati cjelovito (1959) ili skraćeno, pri čemu se koristi apostrof
koji zamjenjuje izostavljeni dio ('59). Prilikom izražavanja godina u rečenicama
engleskog jezika ne koristimo točku. Pogledaj kako se čitaju pojedine godine:
a) Prije Krista - prije nove ere: Before Christ (BC / B.C.), Before Common / Christian /
Current Era (BCE / B.C.E.).
b) Poslije Krista - nove ere: Anno Domini (AD / A.D.), Common / Christian / Current
Era (CE / C.E.).

NAPOMENA: Kada se datumi u engleskom jeziku pišu samo brojkama, lako mogu
zbuniti čitatelja! Uzmimo za primjer 5 / 3 / 1987. Britanci će misliti da se radi o ožujku,
a Amerikanci o svibnju. Stoga preporučam korištenje imena mjeseci ili njihovih
skraćenica.
I was born on Monday, 23 May 1991. (the twenty third of May nineteen ninety one)
He was born on May the 4th 1977, in Ohio. (May the fourth nineteen seventy seven)
We set the meeting for 1 October. (the first of October)
The travel is scheduled for the 11th of November.

Socrates was born in the 5th century BC. (the fifth century BC / before Christ)
Socrates died at the end of the 4th cent. BCE. (the fourth century BCE)

eighteenth and nineteenth centuries)

fifth of January and the second of February two thousand (and) thirteen)
