August 28, 2019 [LESSON PLAN IN EARTH AND LIFE SCIENCE]

I. Objectives:

1. Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of:

 The cell as the basic unit of life.

 How photosynthetic organisms capture light energy to form sugar
molecules.
 How organisms obtain and utilize energy.

2. Performance standard: The learners shall be able to:

 Make a poster that shows the complementary relationship of

photosynthesis and cellular respiration.

3. Learning Competencies/Objectives: The learners:

 Explain how cells carry out functions required for life. (S11/12LT-IIbd-4)
 Explain how photosynthetic organisms use light energy to combine
carbon dioxide and water to form energy-rich compounds. (S11/12LT-IIbd-
5)
 Trace the energy flow from the environment to the cells. (S11/12LT-IIbd-6)
 Describe how organisms obtain and utilize energy. (S11/12LT-IIbd-7)
 Recognize that organisms require energy to carry out functions required
for life. (S11/12LT-IIbd-8)

4. Specific objectives: The learners will be able to…

 Describe how organisms obtain energy.
 Acknowledge that energy- giving molecules derived are transferred to
the ecosystem.
 Adapt a model to trace on how energy in the ecosystem is derived.
II. Subject Matter
1. Topic : Bioenergetics- Energy for Life
2. Reference : Science in Today’s World for Senior High School
3. Materials: Visual aid, Marker, etc.
III. Learning Task
1. Review
 What organelles are present in the plant cell but absent to animal cell?
 What are the functions of these organelles?
2. Motivation
 Why is it advised to eat vegetables?
 What can we get from vegetables that we cannot get from other food?
3. Lesson Proper
3.1 Activity
 The teacher will write the word ENERGY on the board. The students will
then be asked to write anything that might be related to energy.
3.2 Analysis
 What is energy?
 Who need energy?
 How is energy derived in the ecosystem?

3.3 Abstraction
 Energy is the ability to do work.
 Energy is needed by all organisms.
 Light energy from the sun is captured by plants in order to produce
glucose through photosynthesis.
 Glucose is stored by plants as food.
 Nonphotosynthetic organisms eat plants and other organisms to
produce energy through cellular respiration.
 Photosynthesis takes place in plants by combining carbon dioxide
and water with light energy producing glucose (food) and oxygen (as
waste product of the reaction).
 Glucose serves as foods for plants and for herbivores that feeds on
plants. On the other hand, the oxygen is used by heterotrophs to
produce organisms in the form of ATP in the process called cellular
respiration.
3.4 Application
 The students will be asked to develop a diagram to show the
interrelationship of photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
IV. Assessment
½ sheet of paper
Direction: Write the correct answer to the following questions.
1. What is photosynthesis?
2. What is cellular respiration?
3. How is photosynthesis and cellular respiration related?
4. What are the requirements for photosynthesis?
5. What are the requirements for cellular respiration?
V. Assignment
 What are the two process of photosynthesis?
VI. Reflection

A. No. of learners who earned 80% on

the formative assessment
B. No. of learners who require
additional activities for
remediation.
C. Did the remedial work? No. of
learners who have caught up with
the lesson.
D. No. of learners who continue to
require remediation.
E. Which of my teaching strategies
work well?
F. What difficulties did I encounter
which my principal or supervisor
can help me solve?
G. What innovation or localized
materials did I use/ discover which
I wish to share with other teachers.
