COURSE SYLLABUS IN BASIC SWIMMING

GRADE 11

Subject Title: Basic Swimming PE 1

Credit: 2 Units

Subject Description:

The course deals with the concepts, principles and theories of basic swimming. It includes nature of
swimming, benefits of swimming, mechanical principles applied to swimming, basic swimming skills and strokes
and seven fundamentals principles of swimming.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course students are expected to:

1. Explain the historical background and benefits of swimming, pool hygiene and safety.
2. Explain the mechanical principles applied to swimming and the basic skills and strokes.
3. Give examples of precautionary measures in swimming pool areas and cite situations of swimming
etiquette practices discussions.
4. Apply the principles learned every time they do aquatic activities.
5. Internalize the value of water safety and swimming etiquette as their primary guide every time they
swim.
