1.0 OBJECTIVE: To determine and maintain the effectiveness of cleaning agents using
dropper test method.

4.0 APPARATUS AND REAGENTS

Sample Vial
Droppers with blue and white tip
Reagent #018 – 10% Potassium Iodide
Reagent #038 - Starch Indicator
Reagent #069 – .05N Sodium thoiusulfate
Reagent #069 – .005N Sodium thoiusulfate
Reagent #071 – Phosphoric acid

6.0 PROCEDURE
6.1 Rinse and fill the sample vial to the 90 ml mark with XY-8 solution.
6.2 Add 5 drops of reagent #018 and mix.
6.3 Add 5 drops of reagent #071 and mix. Add fifteen (15) drops of reagent #071 if
the solution is greater than 1.0% caustic.
6.4 Add 5 drops of reagent #038 and mix.
6.5 Titrate the solution with Reagent # 069 (0.05N Sodium Thiosulfate) for solutions
with more than 30 ppm chlorine. Titrate the solution with Reagent # 070
(0.005N Sodium Thiosulfate) if there is less than 300 ppm chlorine in the
solution 1 drop at a time, mixing between drops until color changes from dark
blue/black to colorless.
6.6 Record the number of drops

7.0 CALCULATION
Each drop of #069 = 10ppm of Chlorine
Each drop of #070 = 1 ppm of Chlorine
