1.0 Scope

This procedure provides guidelines for calibration of Control Valves.

2.0 Reference Standard

2.1 Pneumatic calibrator and Process calibrator with a valid certificate of calibration
traceable to international standard in accordance with an industrial code or a regulation
shall be used as a standard for calibration.

2.2 The reference standard shall be used under ambient environmental conditions 22°C
±2°C and 60% ±20% RH.

3.0 Preliminary Operations

3.1 The details of Control valve received for calibration shall be visually inspected for any
damage and entered in the Calibration Job Form (. (Applicable in Calibration Laboratory)

3.2 It shall be ensured that the Pressure supply of 20 PSI is applied to the positioner of the
Control valve and direction of operation of the positioner must be checked.

3.3 Standard Pneumatic signal of 3 to 15 PSI must be applied to the positioner of the Control
valve and scale must be noted for corresponding linear displacement values.

3.4 The control valve bench setting must be adjusted as per Name Plate marking.

3.5 The Control valve shall be inspected and marked () in relevant block of equipment's
primary inspection section of Calibration Data Sheet .

4.0 Calibration Procedure

4.1 The Pneumatic calibrator and Process calibrator shall be maintained at same place of
Control valve to be calibrated to stabilize the temperature.

4.2 Control valve shall be exercised 2 to 3 times to full range.

4.3 Control valve shall be taped lightly while recording the readings to minimize friction error.

4.4 The Control valve shall be checked at approximately 0%, 250%, 50%, 75% & 100% of
full range.

4.5 The relevant section of Calibration Data Sheet shall be marked.

4.6 The readings of Control valve shall be recorded in observed value column against the
standard readings in set value column of Calibration Data Sheet.

4.7 The Control valve shall be cleaned and lubricated if required.

4.8 Calibration Certificate shall be issued for calibrated Control valve as per Calibration
Data Sheet Record.

4.9 A Calibration Sticker containing following information shall be affixed on the calibrated
Control valve.
a) Item code
b) Calibrated on
c) Next calibration date

5.0 Related Documents

All the latest formats are documented in Master List of Document / Record and placed in CQF
file for reference.
All the latest Standard Calibration Procedures (SCP) are controlled and issued to concerned
Calibration Engineers.
