Megger / Insulation Tester
1.0 Scope
This procedure provides guidelines for calibration of Megger / Insulation Tester.
2.0 Standard Equipment
2.1 Digital Multi Meter with a valid certificate of calibration traceable to international standard
in accordance with an industrial code or a regulation shall be used as a standard for
calibration.
2.2 The reference standard shall be kept under controlled environmental conditions e.g. dust
free environment and Lab. temperature 22°C ± 3°C. Lab Humidity 60%RH ± 20%RH
3.0 Preliminary Operations
3.1 The details of Megger / Insulation Tester received for calibration shall be entered in the
Calibration Job Form (Form: call/001).
3.2 Inspection of the Megger / Insulation Tester for general condition shall be carried out.
3.3 The Megger / Insulation Tester shall be inspected and marked () in relevant block of
equipment’s primary inspection section of Calibration Data Sheet (Form: call/013).
WARNING
Unless otherwise designated and prior to beginning the calibration process, it shall be ensured
that all test equipment voltage and current out puts are set to zero or turned off where
applicable, Equipment switches are set to the proper positions before making connections or
applying power.
4.0 Calibration Procedure
4.1 Megger / Insulation Tester to be calibrated must be kept in Lab for at least three hours to
stabilize temperature.
4.2 Decade Resistance Box is connected with Digital Multimeter and resistance to be
adjusted for 20% range of Megger / Insulation Tester read the correct value from Digital
Multimeter and records it as set value on data sheet. Connect the same resistance to
Megger / Insulation Tester and read the value from Megger and record it on the Data
Sheet (Form: call/013).

4.3 Repeat step 5.2 for 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% range of the Megger / Insulation Tester.
4.4 After the completion of calibration, disconnect and secure all equipment.
4.5 Calibration Certificate (Form: call/002) and Calibration Sticker (Form: Call/003 shall be
issued as per record of calibration data sheet.
4.6 A Calibration Sticker (Form: Call/003) containing/ having following information shall be
affixed on the calibrated Megger / Insulation Tester.
a) Item code
b) Calibrated on
c) Next calibration date
5.0 Related Documents
All the latest formats are documented in Master List of Document / Record and placed in CQF
file for reference.
All the latest Standard Calibration Procedures (SCP) are controlled and issued to concerned
Calibration Engineers.
