1. OBJECTIVE
Internal cleaning of Water Reservoir

2. REASON
1. To provide an authorized documentation for the internal cleaning of Water Reservoir
2. To provide water to factory free from sand and other unwanted.
3. To avoided growth of bacteria.
4. To meet the requirement of drinking water.

5. To incorporate to the requirement of GQP

6. To adhere to EHS Standard

Responsibilities
 Execution of preventive maintenance / Maintenance complains
work orders, updating of maintenance information and
generating all relevant reports.
 To approve the SOP prior to its use
 To ensure that all routine operations and activities in their
area are documented by SOPs
 To ensure implementation of this SOP.
 To ensure that the procedure follows the details noted in
the SOP.

4. SCOPE
1. Water Reservoir of the factory.

2. Monkey ladders to inter inside of Water Reservoir

3. Roof of the Water Reservoir

5. Supply and return connections to and from Water Reservoir

6. Drain connections

7. Man hole cover of over Water Reservoir

5. PROCEDURE
1 Take permission for Work General & Confined space.
2 Isolate the electric supply & display cautionary boards.
3 Drain the water from Water Reservoir.
4 Open the manhole of Water Reservoir.
5 Isolate blank inlet & outlet valves & display cautionary boards.
6 Arrange oxygen test with the help of oxygen meter.
7 Cleaning person first take bath and change overall before entering the Reservoir
8 Clean the Reservoir with fresh water only.
9 Clean with brush & flush with fresh water.
10 Refill the Reservoir with fresh water & drain, repeat this procedure a number of times (2
to 3).
11 Now refill the Reservoir again & connect all the circuits.
12 Restore the electric supply.

6. INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE – Annexure “A”

1 Clean the tank internally with the help of nylon / wire brushes (i.e ceiling , walls & floor)

2 Clean the roof, walls & floor with clean cloth

3 Fill the tank with water up to the top

4 Drain this filled Reservoir

5 Repeat sr. # 4 two to three times

6 Let the internal surface of Reservoir dry

6.7 Carry out white paint of the Reservoir internally

6.8 Write the date of cleaning on specified place & endorse on note book.

6.9 Restore supply & return connections

7. PRECATION
7.1 Do not carryout any job before issue of permit to work “general” and “confined space”.

7.2 Let man hole remain open for 2 to 4 hours for maintaining O2, measure it with oxy meter
to confirm that it is not below 20%.
7.3 While cleaning a 2nd person must be present around main hole of water tank for safety
reasons.
7.4 Cleaning person must not stay in tank more than an hour continuously.
7.5 Switch of electrical system of chemical dozing pump.
