D. LESSON PROPER
1. Presentation
Class, based on your activity a while
ago, how will you define symbolism?
Ma’am, symbolism is the use of symbols to
express or represent ideas or qualities in
literature.
Very good.
2. Discussion
Let’s discuss symbolism.
Karen, kindly read the symbolism.
Symbolism is use of symbols to signify ideas
and qualities, by giving them symbolic
meanings that are different from their literal
Thank you, Karen. sense.
Symbolism can take different forms.
Generally, it is an object
representing another, to give an entirely
different meaning that is much deeper and
more significant.
An action, an event or word spoken
by someone may have symbolic value.
For example, “smile” is a symbol of
friendship.
Similarly, the action of someone
smiling at you may stand as a symbol of
affection.
Kindly read, Joyce.

Symbols do shift their meanings depending

on the context they are used in.
Symbolic meaning of an action or an object is
understood by when, where and how it is
used. It also depends on who reads it.
Thank you, Joyce.
For instance, “a chain” may stand for
union (connecting one or more things
together) and also symbolize imprisonment.

Here are some examples of symbols

we use:
Red rose- love and romance
Dove- peace and freedom
Black- evil and death
Ladder- connection between heaven
and earth as well as success and failure
Broken mirror- separation

3. Application
What do you think is the object that
represent yourself?
(students give their different ideas about the
question)
4. Generalization
Again, what is our topic again?
Yes, Joana.
Ma’am, our topic is all about symbolism.

Thank you, Joana.

So, what is symbolism again, class? Symbolism is use of symbols to signify ideas
and qualities, by giving them symbolic
meanings that are different from their literal
sense.

Are there any questions or

clarifications, class? None, ma’am.

IV. EVALUATION
Let’s have another activity entitled
“Who Am I”.
Kindly read the instruction, Jet.
