CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHOD AND PROCEDURE

The chapter deals with the methods and procedures that are utilized in

the study. This briefly discusses the research design, subjects of the study,

and data gathering instrument.

Research Design

The descriptive method of research was employed in this study to

gather and analyze the data. This will used to determine the effects of

using visual aids in the academic performance of Grade 11 student in

Gulod Senior High School, Division of Batangas City.

Subject of the Study

The target respondent for this study will be fifty (50) Grade-11 students

of Gulod Senior High School, District of Batangas City. The said students

will comprise the whole study regarding the effects of using visual aids in

the academic performance of Grade 11 students in Gulod Senior High

School, Division of Batangas City.

Data Gathering Instrument

A survey questionnaire will be developed and will serve as main data

gathering tool. Part I of the questionnaire will cover the profile of the

respondents in terms of age, sex, and strand. Part II will deal on the visual

aids used by the teachers in Gulod Senior High School. Part III of the

questionnaire will deal on the effects of using visual aids in the academic

performance of Grade 11 students.

Validation of the Instrument

The first draft of the questionnaire will be show to the research adviser

for comments and suggestions. It will be also referred to other teachers in

Gulod Senior High School, Batangas City for additional comments and

suggestions. The corrected draft will be rewritten considering all

corrections and suggestion given therein.

Administration, Retrieval and Scoring of the Instrument

After the approval of the research adviser the researchers will

approach the school’s principal to seek for permission to administer the

questionnaire to the students of Gulod Senior High School. A formal

request will be presented. After the letter of request will be approved,

assistance and cooperation will be asked to the students in answering the

questionnaire and at the same time to help the researchers in distributing

and retrieval of the copies of the questionnaire.

The research instrument will be scored according to generally accepted

practices on research instrumentation. The study used options as guide in

tabulating and scoring of responses in the set of questionnaire for student-

respondents. The questionnaire is the major instrument used in gathering

the data needed. The questionnaire dealt with determining the effects of

using visual aids in the academic performance of Grade 11 students in

Gulod Senior High School, Division of Batangas City.

Data Gathering Procedure

In the development of the questionnaire, the researchers prepared the

first draft which was presented to adviser for comment and connection to

the statement of the problem.

In validating the questionnaire, two (2) teachers were requested to

check and verified if the test items are placed properly. Next, the

researchers requested the panel to validate the questionnaire for students.

In testing and strengths and weaknesses of the questionnaire, dry-run

was facilitated among teachers of Gulod Senior High School and the rest

of student in Gulod Senior High School who will not be included in the

actual test.

In developing of the questionnaires several stages were involved and

done. Then a letter for administration of the questionnaire was made and

submitted to the adviser for comments and suggestions. After the letter
was checked and revised, the signature and approval of the adviser, the

interview of the respondent was sought for the administration of the final

sets of questionnaires.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The following statistics were used in the study.

Frequency. This method will used to determine the number of students

who scored extremely familiar, very familiar, slightly familiar, not at all

familiar and always, often, rarely, and never. Frequency will be 4, 3, 2, 1

down to the last number.

Percentage. This method will be used to determine the parts of the

analysed performance of the respondents.

Ranking. This will be used to determine the order of decreasing and

increasing magnitude of variables as assessed by the respondents.

Weighted Mean. It will be used to determine and describe the effects

of using visual aids in the academic performance of Grade 11 students in

Gulod Senior High School.
