Lesson Plan in Grade 10 – MUSIC

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:


 Discuss the distinct characteristics of each OPM musical genre
 Name some well-known OPM performers for each category
 Identify the musical genre of a particular song through listening
 Sing OPM songs

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Original Philippine Music


Materials: Visual aids, guitar, speaker, T.V and Flash drive
Reference: Music Grade 10 Learner’s Materials Pages 80-84

The teacher will play on the guitar an example of OPM song popularized
by one of the famous composers which will be mentioned and discussed in
this lesson

A. Activity

Act. No.1 (Group Reporting)

Group 1 – Philippine Pop Music


Group 2 – Philippine Disco
Group 3 – Philippine Alternative Folk Music
Group 4 – Philippine Rock
Group 5 – Pinoy Rap and Hip Hop

1. Let the students express their personal reactions or feelings about these
genres through group discussion and analysis.
2. Have them report the outcome of the group discussion in class.
3. They also have to provide a sample song to their assigned topic.

B. Analysis

Act. No. 2 (Listening Activity) - Groupings

A. With particular order, play excerpts of recordings of the following OPM songs
below:
1. Dalaga - Arvey
2. Huling Sayaw – Kamikazee
3. Hey Barbara – IV of Spades
4. Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko – Moira Version
5. Rawstarr Til I Die – Psychedelic Boys
6. Nobela – Join the Club
7. Tayo’y Magsayawan – VST Company
8. Ako’y Pinoy – Florante
9. Akin Ka Na Lang – Morissette
10. Natutulog Kong Mundo – Wolfgang

B. Have the group listen carefully to each song, analyze and identify the different
musical genres of the particular song.
C. They will answer by raising the letter of their choice.
D. The teacher will assign a scorer and one student to check their answer.

C. Abstraction

The teacher will ask the students about the different musical genres of
Original Philippine Music.
– Philippine Pop Music
– Philippine Disco
– Philippine Alternative Folk Music
– Philippine Rock
– Pinoy Rap and Hip Hop

The teacher will also provide some flash cards of the different OPM performers
and have the students classify them according to their musical style on the board.

D. Application

Group Activity: OPM Song


Sing any of the OPM songs and from any musical genres you prefer.

Have the students do the following:


1. Let the group choose 1 OPM song that they like best or that they are familiar
with.
2. The teacher will give them 3mins. to learn and practice the song. They may
provide “minus one” from their mobile phones, or play their song choice on a
guitar, or completely a cappella.
3. All the groups will then perform their song in class, interpreting the music with
appropriate pitch, rhythm, style, timbre, dynamics, melody, texture, harmony, and
expression.
The student’s performance will be graded according to:

RUBRIC:
Musicianship - 60%
(musical elements, technique, and voice quality)
Presentation impact and showmanship - 20%
Ensemble coordination and organization - 20%
