Greetings
Good afternoon class! Good afternoon sir!
Prayer
(Call student to lead the prayer) Student will pray
Classroom Management
Before you take your seat, please pick up the
trash and arrange your chairs properly. Students respond

Checking of Attendance
Is there any absent today? No absentee for today sir.

Checking of Assignment
Okay class, please pass your assignments in
front. Okay sir!

Recalling of Past Lesson

Class, do you still remember what we
discussed last meeting? Giselle? Yes sir, we discussed about carnivore,
herbivore, and omnivore

And what are those?

Yes Darren? Sir carnivores are animals that eat meat,
herbivore are those who eats plants, and
omnivore that eats both meat and plants.

Very good! None sir!

Any question or clarification regarding our
last topic?

Motivation
Before we proceed to our next topic let’s
have a mini game. I will divide this class into
three groups. Each group will be given some
materials such as clay, glass of water, spoon,
paper plate, food coloring (blue and yellow),
and a placemat.
All you need to do is make me a snack out of
those materials. A clue will be posted on the
board on what kind of snack I want to eat.
The first group who will serve me the correct
snack will win.
Clue: I want to eat an Italian food that is
triangle in shape and also ninja turtle’s
favorite food. I also want to eat a fruit which
name is also its color. I also want to drink
something that is green.

Is the instruction clear class? Clear Sir.

So let us begin. Student will do the activity

Well done class! Did you enjoy the game? Yes sir, a lot!
Good to hear. Now, I have question.
For you in able to made a snack for me, what
did you do? Any idea Ana? Sir we can’t make the food for an instant. We
need to mix some of the materials such as
different colors of clay and food coloring to
finish the task.
Exactly! Well said Ana. You made some
mixture. For you to make an orange, you mix
two different colors of clay as well as
different colors of food coloring to make a
green juice.
How about the pizza, do you think you made
some mixture? Belle? Yes sir, we still mix different colors of clay in
able to made the crust of pizza and its
condiments.
That is right class! You also did some
mixture to make a pizza. We are going to
talk about more of that because today our
discussion is about mixture and its types.

Lesson proper
When you heard the word mixture, what
comes into your mind Elnar? Sir for me it is compose of two or more
materials or substances.
Yes Elnar that is correct. A mixture is a
combination of two or more substances that
are not chemically combined.
When we say not chemically combined,
mixture will happen even without using any
chemical.
For example, a while ago you mixed two
food coloring in glass of water. Did you used
any chemical for them to combine such as
alcohol or chlorine? No Sir!
So do you think what we have done is
mixture? Definitely Sir!
Yes of course it is a mixture.
Actually class we have two types of mixture
and this are homogenous mixture and
heterogeneous mixture. Let us deal first with
homogenous mixture.
Any idea about homogenous mixture?
Yes Arjay what is in your mind? From the word homo sir, I think it is a mixture
that has only one phase.
Well said Arjay! Because homogenous
mixture means “the same” which you cannot
see the parts or different phase of the
mixture.

I have here some pictures. Could someone

tell which among this picture a homogenous
mixture is? Yes Gen? The mayonnaise Sir.
How do you say so? Because all I can see is just one phase.
Exactly! Very good Gen!
Can you give another example of
homogenous mixture? The student will give examples
Any question about homogenous mixture
class? None Sir!

Now class, if this orange juice is a

homogenous mixture and I will put some
pearls on it, would still be a homogenous
mixture? Maricel what do you think? It is not sir because it already had two phases.
Well said Maricel! The homogenous mixture
becomes the second type of mixture which is
heterogeneous mixture.

Any idea from the class what is a

heterogeneous mixture? Sheena? Sir I think it is the vice versa of homogenous
which is there are more than one phase.
Very good Sheena!
That is right! It is because heterogeneous
mixture has different phases that can be seen
by our naked eye.
Do you understand class? Yes sir!

Could you tell me which among this pictures

a heterogeneous mixture is Lakzmi? Sir the picture on left side is the heterogeneous
mixture because I can see different substances
on it.
Very good Lakzmi!
Can you give me another example of
heterogeneous mixture? Casey? A 3 in 1 coffee powder Sir.
Is that a heterogeneous mixture class? Yes!
Why do you say so Nichole? Because we can see different phases and
substances sir such as the coffee, sugar, and
creamer sir.
Exactly Nichole! Remember class, this two
major types of mixture is based on what our
naked eye can see.
If I mix this 3 in 1 coffee powder in glass of hot
water, do you think what will happen? Yes
Maricel? Sir from homogenous, it will become
heterogeneous mixture because it will dissolve
in the water and you will only see one phase.
Good answer Maricel! There are some ways to
make a heterogeneous into a homogenous
mixture such as using water or what we called a
solution.
Solution is usually in liquid form that dissolves
some substances. The substances that are
dissolved is what we called solvent. In you
example, when you mix the 3 in 1 coffee in the
hot water, which is the solution and which is a
solvent? Marian? The solution is the hot water and the solvent is
the 3 in 1 powder.

Correct Marian! Are we clear? Sir is water a homogenous or just a solution?

Well what can you observe in the water in terms
of phasing? There is only one phase Sir.
Which means it is a? Homogenous Sir!
Exactly! Because solution are usually
homogenous mixture. Any question or
clarification class? None Sir!
I also have here an avocado shake with
marshmallows. Do you think this is a
heterogeneous mixture? Yes sir!
But if I will remove this juice and just live the
marshmallows in the glass, what would it be? Homogenous mixture sir!
Very good class!
In able to sure that you understand the two types
of mixture, I will give you some pictures and
post it in the board if it is belonging to
homogenous or heterogeneous mixture. Student will post the pictures
Well done class! Any question? None sir!

Valuing

Now I do have a question. Is there any

important on learning the different types of
mixture?
Yes Carlo can you share your thoughts? Sir it is important because if we learn more
about mixture and its type, we might able to
know what component thus a mixture has.
We can add variety in our way of living such
as variety in taste. Adding more sugar will
give you more sweetness for example.
Very well said Carlo! Let us give him a
hand. There are always mixture in our daily
life. The food we ate, when we are doing our
laundry there are mixture, the medicine that
we take are compose of mixture. Mixture
makes human life much easier and better that
is why as early as now it is better for you to
know what mixture is.
Do you understand class? Yes Sir!
Any question? None so far Sir.

With that, let us have a short activity.

Application

Using the same group a while ago, each

group will be given a piece of cartolina, a
marker, and pictures of different types of
mixture. Each group will arrange and
organize the pictures in the cartolina .
according to the type of mixture. In addition,
if there are new mixture can be made out of
the pictures, they can right it or draw in the
cartolina. After 5 min. each group will
present and explain their work in the front.

Any question regarding your activity? None sir!

You only have 5 minutes to finish the task.
You may now begin.
The class perform the activity.
Well done class! It seems you understand our
lesson.

Generalization

Again what is mixture Gen? It is a combination of two or more substances

that are not chemically combined.
Great!
What are the two major types of mixture and
their differences Medalyn? Homogenous mixture which only have one
phase and heterogeneous mixture which has
more than one phase.
Very good Medalyn!
Any question or clarification class? None Sir!

I think you are ready for a short quiz. Please

get ¼ sheet of pad paper.

For your assignment, give 5 ways to separate

mixture. Write it on your science notebook.
Is that clear? Yes sir!
That’s all for today. Please pick those trash
under your chair and arrange your chair
properly. Students will respond

Goodbye class! Goodbye Sir Gerald!
