1. ORIGINAL SOLITUDDE (Adam being alone)
 "It is not good for a man to be alone. I will make him a helper fit for him" - Genesis 2:19

2. ORIGINAL UNITY (Adam and Eve)

 "this as last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh." - Genesis 2:23
 First union of man and woman
 The anatomy of marital act: Male "initiates" the gift of self, the
female "accepts the gift"
 God initiates the gift of salvation, humanity has to accept that
gift
 That's why Christ is the groom and we are his bride

3. ORIGINAL NAKEDNESS (Adam and Eve accepting each other)

 "The man and his wife were both naked, yet they felt no shame." - Genesis 2:25
 the spouse has no intention to objectify the other
 they felt shame in their nakedness when sin entered
 sexual desire is corrupted
 lust can distort love even within marriage

 LOVE - self giving

 LUST - self indulgence

THE LOVE EXEMPLIFIED BY JESUS

 God's vision of what man should be: LOVE is self-donation for the sake of the other

4 QUALITIES OF LOVE (CHARACTERISTICS OF THE LOVE OF CHRIST)

i. FREE
 "Do you come here freely…"
ii. TOTAL
 "…and without reservation to give yourselves to each other
in marriage?"
iii. FAITHFUL
 "Do you promise to be faithful to each other in sickness
and in health, till death do you part?"
iv. FRUITFUL
 "Do you promise to receive the children which God may give
you in this."
THE ROLE OF SEX IN MARRIAGE
 we don't really call mating in the animal kingdom as SEX, it is
COPULATION, because they "couple" in response to an instinct

 Mating in the human world is called sexual intercourse

 INTERCOURSE - means communication

 This gives sex its humanness, its human character
 In the usual course of things, only humans naturally unite face to
face

 Scriptures call the marital act as ACT OF KNOWLEDGE

 The marital act is NOT a response to an instinct but to a person

SEXUALITY

 it is not about sexual activity

 it is about our integral identity

2 DIMENSIONS OF SEXUALITY
 IDENTITY
 gendered humanity provide an image of God who chose to dwell in
flesh

 RELATIONSHIPS
 It is the warm and caring God who placed within us a powerful
drive/energy of love (sexuality) to forge relationships with one
another

SECARE or (to cut or wound)

 Latin (to divide/separate)
 divide by sex (M&F)
 HUMAN SEXUALITY is one's willingness to sacrifice for one's beloved

 Being sexual means knowing how to relate with others

 God created sexuality and with it sexual pleasure in order that humans
might share in their delights in the context of care & responsibility
 LOVE = care, responsibility, commitment

UNVEILING YOUR SEXUALITY

 Invites us to a deeper and integral self knowledge and be comfortable
with our own sexuality
  Invites us to know more of our partner deeply and integrally (SEXUALLY)

SEXUAL IDENTITY
 Sex (M/F)
 Sexual orientation (hetero/homo/bi)
 Gender identity/role (acts as a man/woman)

 Sexuality is for human completeness and procreation

 Reciprocity = mutual gift for self
 Sexuality is for true married or celibate
 Man and woman have equal dignity
 Different but complimentary

 Value of sexuality and affective relationships are watered down to body and image to:

 Overcome insecurity
 Lack of confidence
 Incapacity to make deep and stable contacts

 We are exposed in a culture promoting possessive love

 Superficial
 Pleasure of immediate satisfaction
 Sexual exploitation
 Commercialization of the body

6th COMMANDMENT
"you shall not commit adultery"

Chastity: the angelic value

 Successful integration of sexuality within
 Inner unity of man in his bodily and spiritual being

 Lust
 Masturbation
 Fornication
 Porn
 Prostitution
 Rape
 Homosexual acts

9th COMMANDMENT
"you shall not covet your neighbor's wife"

 Requires modesty (refusal to show what should remain hidden)
