Chapter 3

Research Methodology

This chapter discusses the method used in gathering data needed to answer the problems

and questions .Furthermore, it deals with the research designs .The locale of the study, the

sample respondents, sampling procedure, data gathering procedure, research instrument and

statistical treatment of data.

Research Design

This study utilizes descriptive design. Descriptive method will be utilized because it

entails description on the perception of the respondent regarding sex education.

Research Environment

This study covers the Grade 12 students under the STEM Standard of Iligan City National

High School for the School Year 2019-2020.Iligan City National High School is considered or

the biggest School in Division of Iligan City in terms of size and population.

Iligan City National High School (ICNHS) is a public educational institution located in

Lanao Del Norte. The school provides quality, fair, culture based and complete basic education

to produce graduates who are intellectually and technologically competent.

Locale of the Study

This study is conducted in Iligan City National High School at Gen. Wood St. Mahayhay,

Iligan City. There are three (3) buildings of Senior High Students namely Dagohoy, Lapu-lapu,
PAGCOR building. This study was limited only in Science, Technology, Engineering, and

Mathematics (STEM) room.

Research Instrument

This study utilize a researchers’ made questionnaire to yield data for the study. The

questionnaire comprises of questions regarding the perception of the respondents on sex

education.

Statistical Treatment

Enable the researchers to present and summarize the data. The following statistical

measures will be used in this study.

Sample Mean. Sample mean is the mean or average of a collection of data. The

researchers have a total of thirty (30) respondents and they serve as the sample mean or target

respondents in this study.

Frequency. The frequency of a particular data value is the number of times the data value

occurs. This is when some respondents have the same answers out of the complete number of the

respondents.

Percentage. The result obtained by multiplying a number by a percent the percentage


equals the rate times the base.

Properties of the study

The population of the study as the Grade 12 students under the STEM strand with a total

population of 100 students. The respondents of this study is thirty percent of the entire

population.

Data Gathering Procedure

Prior to the data gathering, a permission to conduct the study will be secured from the

adviser of the researchers, Rr. Jose E. Salvador, PhD, the Assistant Principal II for Senior High

School Department in order to establish rapport and cooperation with the advisee and the

researches.

After the approval, the researchers personally distribute the questionnaires to the

respondents so as to gather data.

Sampling Procedure

This study utilizes simple random sampling method in choosing the respondents. Out of

the students under the STEM strand, 30 students will be chosen. Fifteen students per section will

be chosen as respondents. The selection will be made through drawing 15 numbers in a box of

numbers, the president must give a copy of student's list for the researchers to know the

respondents.
