CHAPTER 3

METHODOLOGY

This chapter deals with the research design, locale of the study,
participants of the study, sampling techniques, research instrument, the
research’s trustworthiness, ethical considerations, data gathering procedures,
and data analysis. In general, it gives how the data will be gather and process
the collected research data.
Research Design
A descriptive approach was used by the researchers in the study of
absenteeism among the secondary students in Cotabato City Institute.
This design is a type of research where it is designed to depict the
respondent’s answer in a accurate way.
The researchers selected this kind of research design since the topic is about
the absenteeism of secondary students in Cotabato City Institute which
involved the gathering of statistical data in a form of questionnaires.
Locale of the Study
This study was conducted inside the premises of the Cotabato City Institute
since the institution faces the problem that the researchers wanted to seek
answers and solutions to. The school is the most suitable place since it also
has secondary education and students here are fond of not attending to class
with still unknown reasons as to why they initiate such behavior.
Respondents of the Study
The respondents of this study are the secondary students of Cotabato
City Institute who are engaged in absenteeism in school. They were asked a
series of questions about the possible factors, level of their academic
performance, and what consequences they experienced upon doing such
action. Five respondents from each year level starting from the 7 th graders up
to the 10th graders. The selection of respondents were based from the
attendance record of their class secretary. The top five individuals with the
most absences where the ones who were subjected to being invited to
participate in the research.

Sampling Techniques
A purposive sampling was adapted by the researchers. A purposive
sampling is selecting a sample that is non-randomly selected and also based
on a specific characteristic. This way, the secondary students are the main
target for the data gathering.
Research Instruments
A self-made survey questionnaire on the absenteeism of the secondary
students of CCI was used in the study and how the involved students cope up
with the issue. The questions will further know what causes students to skip
class by the use of the statistical data that will be provided by the research
questionnaire of the study. (see appendice)
Validation of instruments
For the validation of the instruments, the researchers consulted an expert in
the field of research.
Statistical Treatment
The three questions were answered by the use of mean distribution. The
profile of the chosen sample was measured through year level, and number of
absences in class. All of the questions was answered by the one-way anova.

Data Gathering
In order to gather data for the research, the researchers followed legal
procedures on gathering the data. A letter was sent to the principal of the
school to allow the conduction of the study inside the school premises. After
the approval was obtained, the researchers coordinated with the people
involved and asked them to allow the conduction of the survey and leave the
prepared questionnaire for the respondents to answer and retrieved the data
from them personally. It was made sure that ethical practices were observed.

Data Analysis
The data of this research was first computed manually and then
transferred to Microsoft Excel in order to get a more precise findings
