I. OBJECTIVES
After the 60-minute discussion, at least 80% of the students should be able to
perform the following at proficiency level;
a) gathers statistical data. M7SP-IVb-1
b) organizes data in a frequency distribution table. M7SP-IVc-1
c) use appropriate graphs to represent organized data: pie chart, bar graph, line
graph, and histogram. M7SP-IVd-e-1

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Opening Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Review of the past lesson (Introduction to Statistics)
 Let the students recall the different terminologies in Statistics and
discuss some functions and uses of Statistics.
B. Motivation
 Activity (Work by Pair)
Present the following to students and ask them to work in groups. Encourage
them to write as many possible answers and explanations.

This is a good opportunity for students to explore different possible correct answers. Just remind
them to provide justification. To enhance their skill on communicating mathematically, you may
ask each group to write a story that each graph or chart describes.

1. What information can we get from each of the above charts or graphs?
Discuss each chart or graph.
2. Do they present the same information?
3. Describe each of the charts/graphs. What do you think are some uses of
each of the charts or graphs?
Ask each group to present their answer and their explanation.

C. Discussion
 A histogram is a graphical representation showing a visual impression
of the distribution of data. A histogram consists of tabular frequencies,
shown as adjacent rectangles, erected over intervals. The height of a
rectangle is also equal to the frequency.

 A pie chart is a circle divided into sectors proportional to the

frequencies. It shows how a part of something relates to the whole. It
is important to define what the whole represents.

 A bar graph is like a histogram except that its bars are separated. This
uses parallel bars, either horizontal or vertical, to represent counts for
several categories. One bar is used for each category with the length of
the bar representing the count for that one category.

 A line graph shows trends in data clearly. This displays data which are
collected over a period of time to show how the data change at regular
intervals.

D. Generalization
 What are some of the different ways of presenting data?
a. Bar Graph – represents counts for several categories
b. Pie Chart – shows how a part relates to a whole
c. Line Graph – represents data over a period of time
d. Histogram – represents counts of data that fall within intervals
IV. APPLICATION
DIRECTION:
1. Organize the following data and present using appropriate graph or chart.
Explain why you are using such graph/chart in presenting your data.
a. The data below shows the population [in thousands] of a certain city.
Year Population in thousand
1975 65
1980
78
1985
1990 80
1995
2000 81
2005 82
2010
86, 90, 120
b. The following data indicates the scores of 30 students who took the qualifying
examination for mathematics challenge.
35, 60, 45, 56, 54, 20, 65, 80, 70, 34, 32 90, 95, 70, 24, 11, 70, 65, 70, 45, 32, 70 45,
55, 76, 77, 16, 92, 88, 86, 78, 54, 19

V. EVALUATION

DIRECTION: Organize and present the following data using an appropriate chart or
graph.
1. An informal survey of 130 youth voters shows their top pick for senator:
Loren Legarda – 68
Chiz Escudero – 31
Bam Aquino – 13
Risa Baraquel – 10
Sonny Angara – 8

2. Mr. Palanca recorded his weight every end of the month in the year 2012.
January 31 – 175 lbs April 30 – 169 lbs
July 31 – 163 lbs October 31 – 158 lbs
February 29 – 176 lbs May 31 – 170 lbs
August 31 – 165 lbs November 30 – 155 lbs
March 31 – 169 lbs June 30 – 165 lbs
September 30 – 161 lbs December 31 – 153 lbs

3. Mrs. Bernardo tallied the Second Quarter Math grades of all 200 Grade 7 students
in Lara’s school as follows:
96 – 100 23 students
90 – 95 45 students
86 – 89 55 students
81 – 85 30 students
78 – 80 26 students
75 – 77 10 students
70 – 75 11 students

VI. ASSIGNMENT
Make a survey in another section to find out how much is the allowance of students in
school in a week.

Reasons of undone discussion for 1 hour in a day:

 Lack of time due to the order and discipline, facilitating factual recall, and activity
 Did not proceed on the next part of discussion until the students didn’t understand the
lesson.
