Flash Fiction
 It is a style of writing which involves producing very short pieces
of fictional literature.
 It is characterized by greater brevity.
 It has been an internet phenomenon.
 It contains all the classic story elements.
 It was emerged in the early 1990s.

 Elements of Flash Fiction

 Brevity — Flash fiction tells a complete story in 1,000 words or less.
Sometimes a lot less words.
 Character —has little time to be developed and described, so you
must make the most of your opportunities.
 Surprise Endings — Flash fiction is famous for its twist endings which
often surprise or shock the reader.  Think of a punch line to a joke as
a good example of this.
 Rich Language — Flash fiction exists somewhere between the realms
of poetry and short story and uses poetic language to weave the tale
efficiently. The format is fluid, allowing the writer to experiment and
play with words and form.
 Change —flash fiction doesn’t have a lot of words, a lot of action is
packed into each story. Something has to happen during the course
of the story.

 Structure of Flash Fiction

1. It should have a beginning, a middle and an end
2.  Pick one point and End it (or close)
3.  It has to be funny or witty or spooky or puzzling or all of it
4.  It is okay to imply and not say the whole thing (because of
paucity of space)
5.  Start with something happening rather than setting or character
traits
6.  Write the full version in your head and then edit, edit, edit and
finish with a punch line
