Dear Mr. Ban Ki-moon:

I am writing with regard to modern technology and its implications on environment, since
prehistoric times people have obtained resources to hunt, protect themselves from nature.
Nature is able to renew many natural resources if consumed at an adequate rate, but other
resources cannot be renewed. For a long time, industrial and technological needs have been
met without paying attention to possible damage caused to the environment.
Some negative impacts such as air pollution coming mainly from power plants burning
fossil fuels, and some consequences of this is global warming of the planet due to the
greenhouse effect or the decrease in the thickness of the ozone layer. Some positive impacts
such as the digital transformation in companies and people are greatly reducing the use of
paper thanks to storage in memory systems, in mail, notes and diaries are now archived in
the digital world, helping to reduce deforestation.
In my opinion I think that science and technology can help to conserve the environment in
many ways such as: using renewable energy sources such as solar, wind or geothermal
energy that are not exhausted; and in general, they pollute less than non-renewable sources
such as coal or oil.
I believe that if we continue with the current trends of consumerism, the resources on which
humans and the planet in general depend will begin to be depleted, endangering human and
wild life, because of the scarcity of resources and the desire to develop new technologies
will cause world wars that will lead to the extinction of humanity.
Sincerely,Brenda Dayana Lopez Bejarano
