Explain the MAIN IDEA from which you developed your responses
The idea behind this project, is “Social Expectations”. I plan to explore what I view as expectations
through society, as well as what others perceive as expectations. Society controls how we should
behave and how we should look. I plan to venture into different aspects of this with stereotypes playing
an important part. The main concept I plan to focus on is how actions by an individual effects them.

In the first two weeks, I plan to research

shoot, beginning to explore the ideas within
the project.

I was successful in completing all of the
aims, including analysis for the first shoot;
beginning the project with a makeup focused
shoot.

For the next two weeks, I plan to use a

project of how you expect someone to act
and how they actually do.
I plan to venture into the idea of fitness
6 through male models. Exploring the idea of

looking a certain way because of societal
pressures.
The second shoot of the project was
achieved, although I don’t plan to continue
with this concept as it doesn’t help develop
the project.
I achieved my original aims by producing a
shoot with a male exercising outside and
inside a gym. I began shooting in the studio,
using both male and female models to
portray contrast.
 I will continue with the fitness aspect of I was able to produce this other shoot with

Describe the CONTEXT (influences, purposes and meanings) of your work
The context behind my project is social expectations, this includes what I view as expectations as well
as what others think. I have ventured into stereotypes; body image; makeup and fitness. The reasoning
behind this is that it is an important topic in modern day society, the pressures as a collective each
person has to face. It can effect individual’s physical, social and emotion health.

The first shoot proved to be successful as a starting point for the project. This is because
2 I started off using the idea of makeup, the attitudes and behaviours it brings to the
subject; with and without makeup.
 The next shoot explores the concept of real versus unreal, which is mainly based on
4 viewer interpretations. This was effective as an experimental technique although I don’t
plan on continuing with this concept.

The next two shoots begin to explore the idea of fitness. Fitness and body image
6 combined as a concept has proved to be successful so far. This is because there are
certain expectations surrounding how one should look. An example of this is, how men
are expected to be big and muscle to provide the male dominance.

I continued to follow the idea of fitness with the contrast of female and male physique.
8 The elements which make the shoots successful are the comedic tone. By creating
comedy within the images, it defies the expectations of the viewer. The impression given
is advertisements which makes the viewer presume the images will be serious.

The experimentation with colour was the most successful within the past two weeks. This
10 is because I produced another fitness style shoot in the studio, although wasn’t as
successful. The experimental shoot provides diversity and variety to the project, using
new techniques; in previous shoots, I have only adjusted the brightness and contrast.
The effect of layering meant that the observer becomes more interested as it implies
movement.
In week 12 and 13, I carried out primary research which I plan to do again because it will
12 help to develop the project further, with responses to my images rather than asking
questions about the subject. By doing this, it provides other’s opinions of expectations. I
also produced a shoot using an older age demographic. This was done to provide the
project with a variety of ages and ideas, as the different age groups are expected to act
differently. Although, this will be the only shoot using the older generation because I plan
to continuing capturing the young, digital generation.
Within this week, I produced many shoots exploring similar ideas; the concept of female
14 empowerment and gender roles. I was able to portray the model as a businesswomen
through varied locations. This concept works well with the ideas I aim to put across. This
is an idea I plan to continue with as feminism is a big part of societal expectations.

During the next two weeks, I produced 4 shoots which all presented the idea of female
16 empowerment. All of them were successful with the last one being the most effective, the
editing of black and white and the reflections. Continuing with black and white is
something I plan to use in images.

In the last two weeks, the project final pieces were produced which ended in being
18 successful. The final products were produced correctly following the ideas and concepts
of the project. The two magazines presented ideas of how high end magazines should
look and how they currently do. By doing this, it follows and defies social expectations.
