Question No 1:
Two resistors have values R1 = 56   5% and R2 = 120   2% Calculate
a. The magnitude of error in each resistor
b. The limiting error in ohms and in percent when the resistors are connected in
series.
c. The value of the equivalent resistor and expected error in percent when the
resistors are connected in parallel.

Solution:
R1 = = 56   5%

R2 = 120   2%
The value of resistance are

R1 = (56  5/100)*56 = 56  2.8

R2 = (1202/100)*120 = 120  2.4

Resistance are in parallel,
Rt = R1*R2/R1+R2

Rt = (56*120/56+120)  ( 2.8*2.4/2.8+2.4)

Rt = 38.18  1.29

Magnitude = 38-18 

Error=  1.29
Percent limiting error,
(1.29/38.18)*100 = 3.37%

a. The arithmetic mean

x= (x1+x2+……………)/n

x= (220.2+ 119.5+ 221.1+ 119.9+ 220.0+ 220.5+ 119.8+ 220.1+ 220.4+ 119.8)/10

x= 180.13

b. The average deviation

D= ∑|di|/n

D1= 220.2-180.13 = 40.07

D2=119.5-180.13=-60.63

D3= 221.1-180.13=40.97

D4=119.9-180.13=-60.23

D5=220.0-180.13=39.87

D6=220.5-180.13=40.37

D7=119.8-180.13=-60.33

D8=220.1-180.13=39.97

D9=220.4-180.13=40.27

D10=119.8-180.13=-60.33

D= (40.07+60.63+40.97+60.23+39.87+40.37+60.33+39.97+40.27+60.33)/10

D= 48.304
