Keeping a routine at-home

During this trying time, our world is being turned upside down which leaves us feeling out of
sorts. Developing a daily routine can help us feel more in control, aid our mental health, cope
with change, form healthy habits and reduce stress levels.

Even with the limited outside world interactions there are still ways to stay active. Coping with
unpredictable times can feel more doable when we have a little structure. Here are some of the
activities I incorporate in my daily routine as a college student staying at home with my family.

School first

I like to stick to my scheduled classes I have for my final semester of college. This means
waking up on time for lectures and participating in class lectures whether it is taking notes or
asking questions. It is hard to stay motivated when everything is online, but sticking to your class
schedule helps keep me motivated and aware of assignment deadlines.

Staying active

There are so many options you can find online for at-home workouts. For me, going on runs,
bike rides, and walking the dogs are great ways to get outside and keep you active. On rainy
days, I use the family Peloton for stationary bike and the Peloton online yoga class. Doing these
workouts before, in between or after classes helps me focus and make the days go by faster.

Healthy diet

As a college student, being at home has pros and cons when it comes to having a healthy,
balanced diet. There are more opportunities to eat consistently but also opportunity to get into
poor eating habits. I like to eat a breakfast, snack on veggies and fruits throughout the day, and
then eat a dinner with my family. My family has a particular sweet tooth, so we always have
desserts. Making sure I don’t overeat from dinner and snack on desserts late at night are some of
the poor eating habits I have to be careful with.

Eating family meals help with sticking to consistent meal-times, so you can build a routine
around those as well as making sure everyone is eating a healthy, balanced diet. You can also
experiment new cooking techniques and cuisines while at-home since there are many recipes
available online.

These are only a few of the ways I incorporate activities for my at-home routine. They keep me
in a routine which ultimately make the days go by faster while being as productive as possible.
