Digital Self

Above are the list of my top 10 reliable websites that I primarily use in studying.

Nowadays, it’s very hard to filter reliable sources that contains helpful studies. That’s why it is

very important that we student, choose the best websites were can benefit from. My top list is

Google. Knowing Google as the largest search engine in the market it is without a doubt that it

should be on the top of the list. Besides, all things can be search through it. You just have to

make sure that the site you search are those of a caliber. My second in the list is Malay Journal.

Malay Journal is made by the University of the Philippines as a website where they can upload

graduate thesis ang journal articles. These serves as a helping tool for us student, especially with

our course where related studies sometimes takes time to be find

Well the third one is much more of a tie with Malay Journal but it is not just concentrated

with Filipino works only. It also caters International Studies. This kind of offer is very useful for

us because we do not experience being boxed in just one idea; we could also explore new

knowledge through this. Number 5 on my list is were I can relate much, because it is our course

official online website were our past batch and now our professors uploads their thesis work and

journal article. Filipinolohiya.org really makes us feel bonded with what we are studying. The

remaining on the list also serves as a tool to avoid us on misleading information’s now that fake

news is very rampant.

To put in in a nutshell, the 10 websites listed above are just a helping tool for us

students. It is up to us, our decisions and ideology as a person on how we can maximize it’s

function. In the end, we will all suffer if we do not make ourselves fruitful, with this gift of

technology, especially the digital platforms.

Political Self

History repeats itself, but sometimes history remains forever. Here in the Philippines we
had experienced being colonize for over 300 years. It is without a doubt, that we Filipinos
became resilient and strong, amidst all the hardship that we have went through. But on the other
hand, we cannot deny the fact that we have been tortured, not just physically but also
emotionally and spiritually. That it’s why it is very important for us to be not stagnant with
current situations and problems of our nation. Especially when the topic is all about our nation’s
freedom. We should never be blind about our surroundings.

In the Movie Dekada ’70 by Lualhati Bautista a renowned writer and director she
discusses the situation a family faces when the time President Ferdinand Marcos declared
Martial Law. If we are going to relate this central point of the story it will bring us here in the
present situation of our country. In today’s nation, although we are considered democratically
free, some laws, restrictions and our own government becomes a reflection of the past Military
based government. Yes, we all want changes but changes are meant to makes people lives better.
In the current situation of our country we faces extra judicial killings, unpracticed freedom of
speech, policemen are over using their power, corrupt officials and many more. These
circumstances brought by our current administration makes us feel frightened that we might
experience another Martial Law. What we have to do as a citizen is to always be vocal with what
our minds have and always filter correct information’s. Now, comparing the movies point view
about our nations, makes me think that, it does not change at all. Although, changes also
occurred, when it comes to people’s power. We Filipinos became more of a fighter. Filipinos
should always have this attitude of a fighter. There is nothing wrong, when you know that what
you are promoting and what you are believing is purely true and authentic. When people start
practicing being strong there’s this image that reflects and make their problems frightened.
Filipino’s should embody this kind of attitude, we Filipino’s should be intelligent thinker’s, we
should always think critically. When the time we think critically we don’t just see things in its
appearance but we see things with its perspectives.

To top it all, I myself realize that freedom is not easy to attain. That in just a blink of an
eye you can have it already. It is something that people should always fight for. Although,
freedom makes people unaccountable of their actions. We should always know the right use of it.
Freedom come, and it also go. People should always have the fight to chase after it. Because in
the end, the things that are hard to attain are the things that are worth the experience. For the
current nation of our country, I hope their will come a time that they start realizing that power is
not what people always need, but the freedom to love, to express their opinion, and lastly,
freedom to live a life with no fear and hesitations.

Letter to Past Self

Ten years ago, there is this boy who is shy and afraid of making friends. Well I cannot
blame him because almost half of his classmates bully him, but he kept his anger. But there is
this one situation where he has to defend himself, and I feel his bravery to stand against them,
and I am proud of that. That boy was you, Jonathan. I want you to always remember, that
standing for what is right is not a bad thing. Although, bravery makes people become greedy of
power that leads to them corrupting their minds. You had composed yourself, even though you
become brave you do not over used it. That’s why I’m proud. I am proud of what you are, and
who you are, always remember that Jonathan.

Letter to Future Self

Hi Jonathan I hope you’re having a great day! I heard you already finished your master’s
-teaching college. Anyways, how about your dream of becoming an animal advocate and a
veterinarian, I hope you haven’t loosed those dream of yours. I hope you always remember what
Socrates quoted that “Un unexamined life is not worth living”. I hope that you always foresee
those adventures of yours not just as a learning lesson but an inspiration to set your goals on your
future endeavors. I may sound so cringy but I always adore those people who strive hard not just
for his own growth but also, the growth of his surroundings, the nations where he had been
prepared to become. You always remember that once you succeed it is not yet the end, but
another beginning. To learn, explore and most importantly share what you have been learned. I
hope to see you around. Have a wonderful day!

Letter to Present Self

Today as I write this letter, I realize that I have many things to work on, my personality,
my attitude, my outlook in life, my goals. I am already approaching one of the hardest parts of
being a college student, being a third year. I hope that I lessen procrastination and start indulging
myself to become responsible student. Setting goals are the most important part of reaching a
dream, so I think for me to be able to succeed and attain my dreams, I have to practice a proper
way of setting a goal, more that the wants I need to organize what I need. Through this practice
of setting goal, I will have a better chance of attaining it. Also, I’ll try to loosen up a bit. I am just
young. I should always seek for improvement, take constructive criticism and always know how
to prioritize. Living young does not mean breaking your freedom. It is about using your freedom
as a tool for you to seek important adventures in life. Lastly, I know that I am not just a student, a
child, a sibling, I am also a Filipino citizen, so I should always remember that all of my actions
are part of the society’s persona. That’s why I should always foresee in doing great deeds for
others. In doing helpful act to those who need a helping hand. I have to always remember to
practice kindness, being natural and optimistic because at present times, that’s what our country
needs.
