Reflection Paper

Believe it or not, this class is the last thing that stands between me and a college degree.

Coming into my last semester of college, I knew I had to complete a computers course in order

to fulfill this last and final requirement and I was dreading it. I have always been intimidated by

computers courses and was dreading it despite the fact that I use my computer every single day.

This class has proven to not only be enjoyable but immensely educational and I will use the

information I learned in it for the rest of my life.

The first objective that I have achieved in this class is approaching new computer-based

tasks more easily and with greater confidence. Before this class I could use Word and Power

Point proficiently but definitely was not a whiz and I could not even begin to fathom how to use

Excel. When I first saw the assignments I thought they were going to be tedious but they taught

me so much and I will definitely feel more confident and comfortable using these applications

moving forward. It is such a quintessential resume builder and I am very excited to now include

the fact that I can use the programs efficiently.

The second objective that I have achieved through the modules in the class is an

understanding of fundamental programming concepts using block programming. When selecting

a computers class, I knew that programming was something that I did not want to do so when I

saw the module requirements, I felt a sense of dread. It actually ended up being my favorite

1
module of the entire course and made programming feel easy and understandable for the first

time in my life. It made me use my brain in an interesting and new way, by the end of the lesson

I was flying through the block programming like I’ve been doing it my whole life.

The third and final course objective that I believe I have achieved through taking this class

is the ability to analyze and discuss social and ethical issues related to the increased use of

technology in education, business, and society. The age old debate is whether or not the

heightened use of technology is beneficial or detrimental to our world. With modern medicines,

smart phones and the internet, it is hard to argue that our lives would be as easy as they are now

without it but a lot of people fear that the heavy reliance we have on technology has made us

lazy. In some senses, this may be true. We seem to be very well connected but people continue to

feel very alone. Despite this, I think if anything it is making us more ambitious and willing to

push the envelope on things we have never done before. This class has opened my eyes to the

epicenter of technology and the impact is truly serves on the world around us.
