13.6 Adiabatic flame temperature
Outlet temperature of combustion that takes place
• adiabatically
• with no work
• with no changes in kinetic or potential energy

For a given fuel, pressure and temperature of the


reactants, the maximum adiabatic flame temperature
that can be achieved is with a stoichiometric mixture.

The adiabatic flame temperature can be controlled by the


amount of excess air that is used.
