2. DESIGN RESULT
Let,
Bar screen thickness = 10.0 mm
Bar spacing = 25 mm
Thus, clear area of screen = (500 35) x 0.025 x 0.2 m2
= 0.07 m2
Thus, flow through velocity at peak flow = (0.008 0.07) m/sec
= 0.11 m/sec ( 1.0 m/sec)

= 0.94 day
= 2.25 hrs
Knowing hydraulic detention time at reactor is 18.43 Hrs.
Thus, fraction of the total retention volume required for the denitrification basin is
= 2.25 x 100 %
18.43
= 12.21 %
Knowing vol. of Aeration tank = 120.96 m3
and vol. of Anoxic Zone = 120.96 x 0.12 m3
= 14.77 m3
Volume of Anoxic Zone Provided = 1.10 m (W) x 5.10 m (L) x 3.60 m (D) x 1 unit
= 20.20 m3 (14.77 m3 req)
Proposed Anoxic Tank size = 1.10 m (W) x 5.10 m (L) x 3.60 m (D)

= 37.79 m³
Volume provided = (26.53 + 37.79) m³
= 64.32 m³ > (Req.: 55.93 m³)
Area provided = (5.10 x 5.10 ) m²
= 26.01 m² > (Req.: 22.37 m²)
Thus, Sedimentation Chamber Area = 5.10 m x 5.10 m

According to Metcalf-Eddy, 4 Ed. Page 1,536, the main objective of aerobic
sludge holding tank is to reduce the mass solid disposal and VSS reduction range
from 35% to 55%.

4. CONCLUSION
Hence, the site area of the plant of 408.77 m2 is sufficient to construct the proposed plant
of PE capacity of 700 persons.
Thus, your kind approval on our renewal of PDC 1 submission is very much
appreciated.
