Lesson Purpose/Goal: To practice and understand the welding process. Time: 50 Min

Instructional Objectives: (Students…)

1. 80% of students will demonstrate the welding process.
2. 80% of students will understand the dynamics of welding.
KOSSA: KCAS: LifeKnowledge Precept: (If Applicable)

Materials/Supplies Needed:
● Tube Icing
● Icing Tips
● Graham Crackers
● Paper Towels

Global Contextual Set: (1. Where we have been; 2. Where we are going & why; 3. What we are doing today; 4. How learners should conduct themselves)
1. We have been discussing the welding process for a week now.
2. We are going to practice the welding technique in a safe setting before we go into the lab and use the
welders.
3. Today we are going to use icing as a model for welding.
4. Even though we are not actually welding we are practicing as if we were so we should all be using all
safety procedures and acting responsible with our materials.
Focus/Interest Approach/Anticipatory Set: (Captures attention and focuses students’ thinking through physical/cognitive engagement. Principle – Experience before label.)
● Before we get started someone describe to me the complete welding process.
Lesson Content:
1. Objective 1: 80% of students will demonstrate the welding process Teaching Method:
(Include all content, activities, directions, scripting, etc. below. Use as much space as needed) Experiential Learning
“Before we start our lab we are going to go over land of FFA, review the methods Notes:
of welding, review the welding joints, and go over the directions for today.” Give instruction
“Today in the land of FFA…” Distribute equipment
“Name one method of welding” Facilitate learning lab
“Name one welding joint”
“Today you are going to use one of the methods of welding using icing to “weld”
two graham crackers together”
“When I say go, one person from your table comes to my left and gets a tube of
icing, one person comes to my right and gets 4 graham crackers, and one person
goes to the shop and gets 2 papertowels.”
“ After everyone gets back to their table wait for further instruction, you may go
again after everyone has made at least one weld if you have enough materials.”
“What questions do you have?”
“GO”
Students will now be completing a learning lab.

Guided Practice: (Group oriented and teacher supported. Include all activities, directions, and description below.)
● “ First we will all run a flat bead.”
● “ You are going to take your icing and make one pass in the middle of your piece of graham cracker
using the circle welding method.”
Contextual Bridge:
● Now that you have a flat bead down we are going to “weld” two graham crackers together.
Independent Practice: (Individualized and independent activity occurring in the classroom. Include all activities, directions, and description below.)
● “Now on your own you can use any of the welding methods and any joint to make your welds.”
Closure - Global Contextual Set: (1. Where we have been; 2. Where we are going & why; 3. What we will do next; 4. How learners should conduct themselves or what supplies are needed
next.)

1. We have been practicing our welding technique.

2. We will start running flat beads until we are proficient with all 4 rods then we will weld metal
together using the rods.
3. Tomorrow we will be in the lab and we are going to weld with the welders.
4. We should all come in having the proper PPE and ready to get started.
Extension Activity: (Optional)
Assessment: (What formal method will be utilized to measure students’ knowledge/learning?)
● I will observe the students “welds”
● I will test the strength of their welds using a stess test.
