Let’s Hurt the Dirt

The name of our idea is Let’s Hurt the Dirt. We are studying in EAST WEST
UNIVERSITY and it is situated in Aftabnagar. And if someone has ever visited or
went Aftabnagar, they will know the present situation of Aftabnagar. There are a
huge pollution everywhere. City Corporation is digging hole for repairing
underground sewerage lines and stuffs. For the food cart sellers and various type
of food sellers are selling their product by polythene and for throwing those
polythene, surrounding of our university is getting dirtier day by day. We are not
being able to study in a place where we’re facing such problems. So we will plan
some campaign to clean our campus. In fact, cleanliness is so important to
productivity that it is considered one of the most important building elements for
a learning environment. In that case, we want to arrange some campaign and
awareness program to clean the environment of our campus. We will name the
whole concept as “Let’s hurt the Dirt” Our main motive is to hurt every single dirt
of our campus. We want to make our campus clean at the same time, we want to
make a culture among people of keeping our surrounding clean by arranging some
awareness program.
Campaigns, Challenges and Solution
Campus Superhero Competition: We will arrange a competition which will be called
“Campus Super Hero” We will make a booth for registration. Students from all
departments will be able to participate there. What they have to do is we will give
them 10 trees with a Trash Can. They will collect wastages from the surrounding of
EWU. Suppose, a student has cleaned a place of full of wastages and after that, he
will plant a tree there. The winner will be selected according to the weight of
wastages that they will collect. Who will collect more wastages than other student,
he or she will be the campus superhero. They will be given certificate by East West
University Environmental & Social Club I EWUESC by arranging a program in front
of other students. And from next, he will arrange a program like this twice in a
month. And every possible help will be provided from us. After the program, all
trash cans will be given to the street food carts so that customers don’t throw
wastages and polythene packet on the road.
Challenges and Solution:
1. The main problem in this type of campaign is to convince people. They
generally don’t find interest in this type of campaign. We need to gather
people in this program by seating booths in front of our campus. We will
make people understand the bad situation of the surrounding of our campus
as well as the prizes or respect that they will get after winning this program.
Also we will hang poster in the campus area to promote this competition.
2. As we have said, they have to plant trees in the place where they will be
cleaning, we need to buy that trees. But, we won’t buy them from a regular
nursery. We will add a non-profit organization called “Brikkho Srijon” There
main motive is to plant trees all over the Dhaka, war against pollution and
make a community who will increase people’s awareness. They generally
plant trees without any cost. But if they amount of tree is more than 40 ,
they come to a point of selling but it’s not for their own benefit. They will add
this money as a donation to buy more trees for Brikkho Srijon and plant trees
without any cost in different places. So, we are buying tree from them as well
as we are contributing for society as a donation.
Awareness program: We will make a virtual reality environment where we will
make a road with full of trashes. Wearing a VR box student will walk through the
road. Some trashes will be directly thrown to the face of the man who will be
wearing VR box and other wastages will be kept on the road. We will make
artificial bad or unpleasant smell around the student. So that, he can get the real
vibe of those wastages. Then after sometimes, he will come to an end where
everything will be so clean and organized. Full walkway will be filled with greenery.
So that he can compare between two scenarios and understand the bad sides of
throwing wastages on the street or here & there.

Challenges and Solution:

1. People get interest which is related to technology. We will face no challenges
if we want to execute this plan. But we will face some difficulties when we
will make VR environment. Maybe we won’t be able to make that
environment flawless by ourselves. We will hire an expert editor to edit and
make the whole VR Environment.

Consequences
If we can make this happen, we think people won’t throw wastages here and
there. Students will be motivated after watching this type of campaign and
they will be eager to do more campaigns like this. The wastages of
Aftabnagar will be decreased and a culture will be created of not throwing
wastages here and there. The whole campus area will be filled with greenery
very soon and it won’t be a dream of inhaling fresh air.

Budget breakdown
The whole funding will be given by our East West Authority. So We are giving
a costing idea that would be needed to make these programs happen.

The other costings means some materials which will be using for planting
trees and some lunch boxes for participants. We have assumed there will be
50 participants and we will give 90 taka lunch to each participant.

That’s how, we will clean our campus and make strong awareness among
people.
