Experiment No. 2
Thyristor Speed Controller

HYPOTHESIS

1. What do you expect about trend of the value of I A in Table 2.1? (2 points)

- The value would be proportional to the voltage.

2. What do you expect about trend of the value of motor speed in Table 2.1? (2 points)

- It will start slow and will speed up once the firing angle is reached.

3. What is the expected trend of the EA values in Table 2.2? (2 points)

- The values will decrease as torque goes up.

4. What do you expect about trend of the value of I A in Table 2.2? (2 points)

- It would be proportional to the torque

5. What do you expect about trend of the value of motor speed in Table 2.2? (2 points)

- The speed would slow down little by little.

6. What do you expect about trend of the value of I A in Table 2.3? (2 points)

- The value would be proportional to the torque.

7. What do you expect about trend of the value of motor speed in Table 2.3? (2 points)

- The value would be decreasing

8. Comment on the difference between the trend of the motor speed reading between Table 2.2 and
Table 2.3 (3 points)

- 2.2 has constant speed and we vary the voltage and the current while 2.3 has constant
voltage and we vary the current and speed of the motor.

9. The Armature Voltage in Table 2.3 will be dependent on what? (3 points)

- The firing angle.
