1. Answer ONE Question from each UNIT
2. All parts of a Question must be answered in one place to get valued.
3. All questions carry equal marks.

UNIT-I

1. a) Explain the design principles of working stress method. 4 Marks

b) Design a rectangular beam to carry a bending moment of 30 kN-m .Use M20 and Fe 415 10 Marks
grades.
2. Design a rectangular beam 4.5m effective span which is subjected to carry a superimposed load of 14 Marks
22kN/m, Use M20 Concrete and Fe 415 steel .Use working stress method
UNIT-II
3. Explain the following:
a) Limit sate of collapse. 4 Marks
b) Factored load. 3 Marks
c) Limit state of serviceability. 4 Marks
d) Characteristic strength of steel. 3 Marks

4. Design flexural reinforcement for an RC beam of size 300mm wide and 500mm deep to resist an 14 Marks
ultimate moment of 245 kNm. Assume moderate exposure condition. Use M25 concrete and
Fe 500 grade steel. Adopt Limit State method.
UNIT-III
5. An isolated T-Beam has a flange width of 1000mm. flange thickness of 80mm and effective depth 14 Marks
of 400mm.The rib is 240mm wide and reinforced with 5 bars of 20mm diameter.
Determine the moment of resistance of the Section, If M 20 concrete and Fe 415 steel are used.
The beam is simply supported over a span of 4m.
6. A rectangular beam 250mm wide is subjected to the following at a section 14 Marks
i) Sagging bending moment of 35 kNm.
ii) Shear force of 27 kN.
iii) Torsional moment of 25 kNm.
Use M25 and Fe 415 steel. Design a suitable section and find the reinforcement required in the
section. Sketch the reinforcement details.

beams is 250 mm, the slab carries Live Load of 4 kN/m and Floor Finish of 1 kN/m . Use
Concrete M 20 and steel grade Fe 500. Design the slab for the corners free to lift condition. Also
draw the plan, section along short and long spans.

8. Design a continuous RC slab for a hall 6 m and 13.5m long. The slab is supported on RCC beams 14 Marks
each 250mm wide which are monolithic. The ends of the slab are supported on walls 300mm wide.
