Before we will proceed to our new lesson,
let’s have a review first of what we had
discussed last meeting.
So, what did we discuss yesterday? We talked about the Right Triangle Similarity
Theorem (RTST).
Very good. So, what is RTST? RTST states that if the altitude is drawn to the
hypotenuse of a right triangle, then the two
triangles formed are similar to the original
triangle and to each other.
How will you describe a right triangle? It has an angle measuring 90°.
If I have here ∆ABC, name the hypotenuse
and the legs.

Presentation
Now, based in our activity a while ago, our
lesson for today is all about Pythagorean
Theorem.
What is Pythagorean Theorem? Do you have Pythagorean Theorem for me is in the
any idea? equation of 𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 = 𝑐 2 .
Very good. Who else? Pythagorean Theorem is the relationship
between the sides of a right triangle.
Very good. Who can state the Pythagorean Pythagorean Theorem states that the square of
Theorem? the hypotenuse of a right triangle is equal to
the sum of the squares of the legs.
Pythagorean Theorem can be applied only in
right triangle.

Very good. Now, I will show you a right


triangle. Name the sides of the triangle and
identify what part of the right triangle each
side that you’ve mentioned.

Very Good. Now, let us try to prove the (Students prove the Pythagorean Theorem)
Pythagorean theorem. In proving the
Pythagorean theorem, we will apply also the
concept you have learned in Right Triangle
Similarity Theorem.

Now, let’s apply the Pythagorean theorem in


finding the unknown side of a right triangle.

Given:
a=6
b=8
c=? b c

Let’s have another one.

Given:
x=6
y=?
z=15 z y

𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 =𝑐 2
(Use the badge again in choosing a student to 62 + 82 =𝑐 2
answer in solving the above examples) 36 + 64=𝑐 2
100=𝑐 2
Now, let us deepen our knowledge on 10=c
Pythagorean Theorem in solving real-life
problem/situation.
Example: Solution:
A 10 feet ladder is leaning against a vertical 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 =𝑧 2
wall. If the foot of the ladder is 6 feet from 62 + 𝑦 2 =152
the wall, how high does the ladder reach? 36 + 𝑦 2 =225
Create an illustration. 𝑦 2 =225-36
𝑦 2 =189
y=3√21

will be given a problem for the members to
solve. Write your answer in a manila paper
and assign one member to report/explain your
answer.

Generalization
Again, what is Pythagorean theorem? It is the relationship of the sides of a right
triangle.
The formula is 𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 =𝑐 2 .
Pythagorean theorem states that the square of
the hypotenuse of a right triangle is equal to
the sum of the squares of the legs.

What is the use/application of Pythagorean The Pythagorean theorem is use in


Theorem? finding/solving the missing/unknown side of
a right triangle.

replaced. The tower is 96 ft. tall. The anchor
line is 105 ft. long. How far from the tower
can it be placed, to the nearest foot?

𝑎2 + (96 𝑓𝑡. )2=(105 𝑓𝑡. )2
𝑎2 + 9216 𝑓𝑡.2=11025 𝑓𝑡.2
96 ft. anchor line
𝑎2 =11025 𝑓𝑡.2 -9216 𝑓𝑡.2
105 ft.
𝑎2 =1809 𝑓𝑡.2
a=√1809 𝑓𝑡.2
a=3√201 ft.
Therefore, the anchor is 3√201 ft. or
approximately 43 ft.
