Celebrating Dashain of 2019 with the lovely children of Bal Mandir

Introduction

Dashain , the mahachaad ( greatest festival) is just around the corner. We can already feel it, with the cool
breeze, the blue sky, people hustling streets and shops of Kathmandu, bus tickets being booked and just
the bright look on the faces of people. Nepalese in Nepal and all around the world are undoubtedly settling
into the dashain mood and starting to plan for good times. Dashain is not just a festival it is a feeling. It
surpasses the boundaries of caste, class, age, gender and geographical positioning. Dashain is special for
every Nepali, by default. It is a time to celebrate the victory of good over evil; to spend quality time with
loved ones; to eat delicious food; to play cards and fly kites; to create memory; all in all do all the things
that makes oneself and others happy.

Getting into this spirit of creating happiness, Spreading smiles is planning to conduct an event titled “AYO
HAI AYO..FERI DASHAIN AYO” with the lovely children of Bal Mandir, Naxal, Kathmandu on the auspicious
occasion of Ghatasthapana on 29 September 2019. With this program we are aiming to make this Dashain
special for these special children. We will be responding to the needs of the children as suggested by Bal
Mandir’s staffs and do different activities for the children, for them to have memorable time. The event
will be about gifts, good food, fun games and music.

About Spreading Smiles

Spreading Smiles is a group of enthusiastic youths comprising of IT professionals, Doctors, Teachers,

Photographers, development worker and Management people, who came together in 2013 to bring
positive change in society by contributing towards various social needs. We are a socially responsible team
of people, whose mutual intent is to bring positive changes in peoples’ life through combined effort. Our
belief is that every small effort to support someone counts, it makes a difference and spreads a smile. We
do not limit ourselves to a set of working areas or theme, rather work to respond to various social calls as
per the need. Through our work, we convey message to other young people to take responsibility for the
happiness of at least one other person who is less fortunate than you are. We raise funds through friends,
family, private companies, social organizations and groups for all our activities. Hence our work is possible
with the support of our generous private donors.
About Bal Mandir ( Nepal Children’s Organization-NCO)

Bal Mandir (NCO) is a non-governmental organization committed to improving the lives of children in Nepal,
and helping them succeed. Established in 1964 as a not-for-profit- organization, NCO focuses on child care
and education for orphaned, abandoned and conflict affected children; rehabilitation of dependent
children of prisoners; promotion of children’s rights; national and international adoption of children;
educational support to children from low income families; and strengthening the capacity of its nationwide
network.

NCO has been running children’s Homes in 12 places of Nepal for the protection of orphaned, abandoned,
conflict affected, mentally retarded, differently abled and dependent children of prisoners’. Children
Homes can be divided into 3 types as per the nature of children, i.e children home for orphans; children
home for conflict affected and children home for prisoners’ dependent.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS EVENT?

As mentioned earlier, Dashain is about this feeling of happiness. Hence, firstly we want to celebrate it with
these children to share our love and care with them. Through this event we hope to create a memorable
time for them and enjoy the festival with new cloths, good food and games like any other child. In this
event, we will also be supporting the child home to be better equipped for winter for infants as per the
need pointed by organization. Since such exchange of love and care are the basic fabric of any society, this
event is also organized to gain support from people who are in a position to help the less fortunate ones,
to keep the spirit of humanity and feeling of compassion alive in our Nepalese society

WHO ARE WE DOING THIS FOR?

Children living in the child home of Naxal and Dolakha are orphaned. These are the children, whose both
parents died or father died and were abandoned by the mother after her second marriage or children
found in an unclaimed situation or children abandoned by mother at the maternity home or hospital after
birth. Despite having such harsh realities as their background, they are still innocent and pure souled kids
who have wishes, dreams and potential like any other child.
