1. describe the second period of ICT development,
2. identify the two major inventions under Mechanical period,
3. differentiate the Mechanical period from Pre-mechanical period,
4. value the use of advanced technologies in respect to what others have before.

III. Procedures
A. Preparatory Activities
Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities
a. Prayer
Everyone stand up and let us pray. Students will follow
Angel, lead the prayer. Lord, our God, we praise and thank You
for You have given us another day with good
health and so many blessings. May You
forgive us in our sins and also let us be able to
forgive those who sinned against us. Send your
spirit upon us and fill us with your wisdom.
Grant us that we may devote ourselves in our
studies and draw ever close to You, the source
of all knowledge. We ask this through Christ,
our Lord, Amen.

b. Greetings
Good morning, class! Good morning, Ma’am Robles!
c. Maintaining the Classroom Order
Before you take your seats, make sure that Students will pick pieces of trash near
the area near you is clean and your chairs are their place and quietly arrange their chair.
properly aligned.
d. Checking of Attendance
Class secretary, do we have any
absentee/s today? No one is absent today, Ma’am!
Very good, everyone!
e. Checking of Assignments
Class, bring out your assignment and The students will follow.
pass it forward. I will be the one who will
check it.
f. Review of the Past Lesson
Yesterday, we discussed about the ICT
and the first development period of it. To have
a short recap, everyone check if there is a
piece of paper attach under your desk. All
those who got letter A will recite what they’ve
learned yesterday and those who got B will
stand by.
The first person who got an A paper is
Danica. The word written in my paper is Abacus
which was said to have come from China and
is considered to be the first calculator.
The next one is Alaine. The word written in my paper is
Information Communication Technology.
These are the technologies that allow us to
communicate with each other.
Okay, the last one for today’s recap is The word written in my paper is Pre-
Agnes, mechanical period which gave rise to modern
day alphabets, papers, books, libraries and
abacus.
That’s correct! Very good, everyone.
Give yourself a bravo clap. The students will do the bravo clap.
g. Motivation
4pics 1sentence
The teacher will group the class into four
groups. She will present 5 sets of 4 pictures to
them where they need to create a sentence
using these pictures. The group who wants to
answer will raise their hands and say their
group name. Every acceptable sentence will
earn them one point. The group who have the
highest point will be the winner.

B. Developmental Activities
Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities
a. Presentation
After the fabulous discoveries and
inventions in Pre-mechanical period, our
ancestors probably felt the cravings for more
technology now that they know they can
invent and develop more using their curiosity
and unending inquiry about the world.
b. Discussion
Inventing and developing after Pre-
mechanical period is no joke and will
everyone agree with that statement? Yes, Ma’am.
Why do you think so, Aira? Ma’am, we have to take into
consideration the materials they needed to
invent something, their financial status and
the application of their ideas.
Good observation, Aira. Electricity was
still not discovered after the Pre-mechanical
period. What do you think did our ancestor use
first in replacement of the electricity? Students will raise their hands.
Yes, Jem? According to my assignment, they
first used machines.
That’s right! Before electricity, people
defended first on pure machines which will
lead to us in the next ICT development, and
that is named what, Jessa? The Mechanical period, Ma’am.

Okay, so Sam, describe something about

the second period of ICT development. Ma’am, the Mechanical period focuses
on using machines through mechanical means
like steams and gears. (O1)
How about your description for the
Mechanical period, Aizyl? It serves as the bridge between our
current period and the Pre-mechanical period.
Right, so because of this period, we were
able to enjoy advanced technologies that didn’t
exist before. Now, there are two major
inventions during this period. What are those,
Angelica? It is the Pascaline and Analytical
Emgine, Ma’am. (O2)
What do you think is a Pascaline, Grace? Pascaline is a mechanical calculator
invented by Blaise Pascal. It is used for
addition.
How about the Analytical Engine,
Maine? Analytical Engine is the first
programmable mechanical computer invented
by Charles Babbage.
Absolutely, but what is the function of
this Analytical Engine, Lara? It is used for arithmetical operations,
numerical constants, and store operations.
Well, that’s a lot right? Given that it was
just in Mechanical period. There’s no
electricity yet but Babbage manage to invent
something that is so useful in their time. What
do you think the people felt that time at
Babbage who invented something
extraordinary, Nino? I think they were so grateful and
thankful for him. They surely gave him praises
because of what he did.
That’s a point. How about for you, Jhaz? Some people may think that it was just
for himself. If you invented something that
time and you get the patent, you can create a
multiple copy of that invention and sell it in
high price.
Another view point. We couldn’t
possibly know what people really felt that time
since we didn’t live in their time. But this
invention of computer by Babbage made him
known as what, Camille? The Father of computer Ma’am since
what he invented was programmable
mechanical computer.
Yes, everyone considered Babbage as the
Father of Computer. But do you think he’s
worth the title, Christian? Yes, Ma’am. Inventing something is
not easy and the fact that he invented it
without electricity and given the lack of
components, he’s really worth it.
I get your point. How about for you,
Joshua? I think also that he’s worth it since he
was the first one who made it. He’s the
foundation.
And how about for your perspective,
Donna? I also think that he deserved it.
Although I think he’s already dead when the
title was given to him but still he left a legacy
and that is what’s important.
That was all good opinions, class. So
now, what do you think is the difference
between the periods of Pre-mechanical to
Mechanical? Why did it was separated and not
combine into just one period, Jeirick? Because there different happenings in
this period. In the Pre-mechanical, it focuses
on developing the rocks into stone tablets and
then developed it again into papers then into
books and finally into a library. But in
mechanical period, it focuses on mostly
machines. (O3)
That’s right. How about for you,
Angelica? Like what Jeirick Ma’am, they should
be separated since the focus or the highlights
in this period are different from each other.
Although the abacus is somehow a machine
but the image of abacus now isn’t really
what’s like before so it should really be
considered in Pre-mechanical.
Everyone is very observant, that’s good
class. Now do you have any question or point
of clarification about our topic today? No, Ma’am.
c. Generalization
So those who got the letter B in our
review of past lesson a while ago will answer
now what they have learned about our topic
today.
The first who got letter B under their
desk is May ann. I’ve learned that the second period of
ICT development is Mechanical period which
focuses on machines run by mechanical means
like steams and gears.
Next is Jem. I’ve learned that the highlights of
Mechanical period are the invention of
Pascaline and Analytical Engine. Pascaline is a
mechanical computer used for adding and was
invented by Blaise Pascal while Charles
Babbage invented the other one.
The last person is Kim. I’ve learned that Charles Babbage is
the Father of computer since he was the first
one to invent the first programmable computer,
the Analytical Engine. And also I’ve learned
the difference of the Pre-mechanical and
Mechanical period.
