Weather (teacher’s notes)


1. Vocabulary presentation (Activity 1) 5 mins
Aims: to present new vocabulary on the topic “Weather” and practise pronunciation.
Procedure: Say the words:sunny, rainy, windy, cold, cloudy, hot. Ask the students to repeat
after you. Repeat the words again, use gestures to help comprehension.

2. Vocabulary practice (Activity 2) 5 mins


Aim: to provide controlled practice of the vocabulary.
Procedure: Read the words: sunny, hot, cloudy, rainy, windy, cold and ask the students to
colour pictures in the order as you are naming them.
Then students should complete gaps. Say: “Look and write the letters”. Show “S”.
Draw the letter in the air. Write the letter on the blackboard. Repeat the same actions
with “h”, “c”, “r”, “w”. Let the children write the missing letters in the words.

3. Vocabulary practice (Activity 3) 2 mins


Aim: to remember the spelling of the words.
Procedure: Write the words on the blackboard in the same way as in the worksheet. Circle
the first word as an example. Wait for students to finish the task, then ask one of them to
do the same on the blackboard.
Check his work together.
Say the words loudly together.

4. The matching game “Weather” (Activity 4) 5 mins


Aim: to practise new words on the topic ‘Weather”.
Procedure: Cut out the cards and set the game. Print more copies to play longer.
Rules:
Group students into pairs and give each pair the set of cards. They put the cards face down,
shuffle them and put in rows.
Each player takes a turn by turning two cards over. If the cards match, then the player
picks up the cards and keeps them. If they don't match, the player turns the cards back
over. If the player gets a match, they get to go again, until they fail to get a match.
A match is when two cards have the same picture.
The winner of the game is the player with the most matches once all the cards have been
picked up.

5. Weather song (Activity 5) 3 mins


Aim: to practise singing an English song.
Procedure: Pre-teach the words “go away” and “want to play”. Sing a song and do the move
ments together with the students.

6. Watching a video (Activity 6) 5 mins


Aim: to practise listening skills.
Procedure: Play the video about Peppa Pig and ask the students to tick the pictures
they have seen in the video.

7. Craft (Activity 7) 7 mins


Aims: tto practise listening for specific information and speaking for fluency.
Procedure: Elicit the weather students see in the weather wheel. Give instructions to do the
craft: Cut out the wheels, punch a hole in the middle of the weather wheel. Fasten the
wheel and the weather wheel together with a split pin.
Then write the dialogue on the board and demonstrate the example with one student:
A: What’s the weather today?
B: It’s sunny.
Ask students to role play the dialogues in pairs.

8. Sum up 3-5 mins


Summarise the lesson and tell students what results they have achieved (Now you can …
After our reading and speaking lesson you will be able to….). Ask them if they have any
questions. Conduct delayed error correction if needed.

9. Homework
Point to different objects in the class and elicit the colours (red, brown, blue, green, orange,
yellow) Say: “Look at this umbrella. Could you colour it? One is red.” Show what they
should do, coloring the part of the umbrella in your worksheet. Ask to finish at home.
