Trail Walking
LOCATION:
Off-site: Lilydale – Warburton rail Trail and surrounding state forests.
DESCRIPTION:
Bushwalking is an activity that is educational and relaxing that brings the participants of the group
closer in connection with the surrounding settings, filled with flora & fauna. The Trail walk or any
other walk taken must follow a marked path through bush land, stated by The Department of
Education. The trail walk does not need to be called off due to the weather dependant but if there is
any fire danger or rough wet weather, groups are guided to choose an alternative activity.
AGE SUSTAINABILITY:
Grade Prep and above.
RATIOS:
The activities ratios and qualifications have been taken from the Victorian Education Department
Bushwalking guidelines.

TEACHER INSTRUCTIONS:
Teachers are to explain safety precautions to the student’s on-site before travelling to Lilydale –
Warburton rail Trail and surrounding state forests. Before walking through the trail off-site, staff and
students need to be wary of motor vehicles while crossing to the Lilydale – Warburton rail Trail and
surrounding state forests. Also, teachers are to explain safety of walking in groups with students and
to know who are in the group to ensure that no one is lost in the walking trail; 1 teacher leader at
the front of the groups and 1 teacher leader behind the groups of students.
