Chris Evans Explains His Dog's Bad

Quarantine Haircut

00:01
-Hi. Welcome. Thank you so much for doing this.
00:02
-Absolutely, man.
00:04
-I really, really appreciate it. I'm kind of getting to see
00:07
a little bit of your quarantine life
00:09
[Laughter]
because you just joined Instagram.
00:12
-Oh, yeah, I did. I did.
00:14
-That was a big decision for you, huh?
00:16
-Yeah, it was. I don't know what it was.
00:18
I guess I caved. I feel like such an old man.
00:21
I'm so late to the party.
00:22
-[ Laughs ] Oh, my God.
00:24
-You know what it is? I had too many good pictures of my dog.
00:28
I was like these are being wasted on my phone.
00:31
-Wait till you get to brunch.
00:32
Wait till you start posting those photos. Oh, Gosh.
[Laughter]
00:35
-No spoilers. No spoilers.
00:37
But I did see what you did to your dog.
00:42
It's a little unfortunate.
00:44
Why would you try to shave your dog?
00:46
-Alright. I had done it once before,
00:49
right when quarantine began.
00:50
I gave him just a little bit of a trim,
00:52
just, you know, with a little bit of timidity.
00:54
And it went great.
00:56
And so I got a little confident and put on a shorter attachment.
00:59
And it just exploded in my face and I kept trying to fix it.
01:03
And eventually I was like, "Alright, got to cut my losses."
01:07
-Explain it to me because I want to do it for my dog.
01:09
-Well, here's the deal. Alright. We'll get into it.
01:12
I'll give you the real. So, the first time I did it,
01:14
it was after a walk, and so he was exhausted.
01:16
So he was straight and flat.
01:18
And you can just kind of -- you got to go with the hair.
01:21
You don't go against it. -Don't go against it. Okay.
01:24
-But then the next time I did it,
01:25
it was first thing in the morning
01:26
and he had a lot of energy and he kept --
01:29
As you're bringing the clippers down,
01:30
he kept twisting his body and the skin will crunch up.
01:34
-Was he bleeding? -Oh, God, no.
01:36
He had no idea what was going on.
01:38
I just kept trying to tell him to str--
01:39
I mean, you're trying to speak to him.
01:40
He doesn't speak English.
01:41
-Oh, my God, you got one of those foreign dogs?
01:44
-[ Laughs ]
01:47
-But I will say for everyone to follow you,
01:49
because you're @ChrisEvans.
01:52
-You're giving me a little boost on the show. Alright.
01:55
-I'm helping you.
01:57
I'm helping you grow this Instagram thing
01:58
because I'm a fan. I see what you've done.
02:01
I follow you on Twitter. You're a good follow.
02:03
People enjoy you. You do creative things.
02:07
Oh Thanks
Are you going to wear the -- Are you going to wear the sweater?
02:12
-The sweater? Oh, oh, oh.
02:15
-What, dude? That was a phenomenon.
02:18
-Yeah. You know, I can't wear the sweater.
02:21
I mean, it's a shame. I love cable knits.
02:23
But now I feel like when I wear them, people like, you know.
02:26
-Yeah.
02:28
-It's kind of -- I don't know if it works anymore.
02:31
-It's kind of great sweater to own, though.
02:33
I mean, that's a classic.
02:35
-I love that sweater.
02:36
I love those sweaters. I love cable knits.
02:38
That's my favorite about winter. You get cable knits.
02:42
-I was going to ask you this because a lot
02:44
of people know you. You're very funny as well
02:46
because you get to do movies like "Knives Out,"
02:48
but you also get to do "Captain America"
02:50
and you can tap dance, too. Is that true or I made that up?
02:53
-Yeah. Yeah. I heard you're tapping now.
02:55
Is that true? -I'm trying to tap.
02:57
-Hey, man, I tell you what, it's true.
03:00
When I was -- I did a show in New York a few years back.
03:03
And when we weren't rehearsing, I took tap classes once a week
03:05
just to brush up a little bit. I miss it.
03:07
It's a really, really fun time. It's a great workout.
03:10
And it's frustrating, but it's --
03:11
-It's frustrating.
03:13
It's so hard. -You know what? It's like golf.
03:15
Like, you know, you'll hit a million bad balls.
03:17
But then that day you turn the corner and it just makes sense.
03:20
You're like, "Oh, my God. I got it. I love this."
03:23
-That's a good analogy.
03:26
I do feel that way with golf because I'll never master it.
03:30
-Just take one good shot to keep coming back, though.
03:32
-One good shot. You go, "Ah, that made my whole month."

Yeah
03:36
Let's talk about your new series, "Defending Jacob."
Yeah
03:40
It's on Apple TV+.
03:42
I'm familiar with the book.
03:44
But what is this series about?
03:47
-It's -- I play an assistant district attorney
03:50
in a small town in Massachusetts.
03:52
I have a 14-year-old son who gets accused of murder.
03:55
There's a murder in the town.
03:56
And my son gets arrested as prime suspect.
03:59
And it's kind of the unfolding of those events.
04:02
-Based on the giant book.

04:04
-Yeah. Yeah.
04:06
-Did you -- Do you like doing TV over movies?
04:09
Is there a difference? -That line is so blurred now.
04:11
You know, I can't --
04:13
It doesn't feel like, maybe 20, 30 years ago
04:15
there was more of a divide in terms of
04:18
the nature of the content.
04:19
But now, I mean, you know, it's just that --
04:22
there's actually a lot more exciting risks being taken,
04:25
I think, in that medium these days.
04:29
I mean, any sort of a -- I mean, 20 years ago,
04:32
this would've been a movie and it would've been all engine
04:34
and it would have been plot-heavy,
04:35
and it would've been entertaining.
04:36
But this allows it to breathe a little bit.
04:39
You know, you get to explore characters and moments,
04:42
much more texture to it, and I think that's the stuff
04:44
that you almost consume it the way you would a book.
04:47
You know, books, you kind of revisit.
04:49
And, you know, the draw of the book
04:51
is how quickly it can pull you back into that world.
04:53
And that's kind of why I think people are getting addicted
04:55
to these streaming shows,
04:57
because you can watch in chapters.
04:59
-Yeah. It's also great to watch good actors just
05:03
get into a juicy role and just, like, create it
Yeah
05:06
and see how long they can make that character.
Yeah
05:08
It's fun. It's like watching a high-wire act.
05:11
I think it's cool.
Yeah
05:12
-Oh, good analogy. I like that.
05:13
I'm sure I'll steal that.
05:14
-[ Laughs ] You're allowed to, man, please.
05:17
You did that where? In Massachusetts?
05:19
-Massachusetts.
05:21
We shot like 20 minutes from where I live. It was great.
05:24
I have like a -- It's like having a regular 9:00 to 5:00.
05:27
I was sleeping in my own bed
05:28
and I was seeing my family on the weekends.
05:30
It was great.
05:32
If I could shoot everything in Boston, I'd be thrilled.
05:35
-And then you got to highlight your Christopher's Haven,

Yeah
05:40
which is a very cool charity.
05:43
You want to explain what that's about?
05:45
-Sure. Yeah, I've worked with them for a few years now.
05:46
Just kind of -- I know the woman who runs it.
05:48
And every now and then she'll kind of ask
05:50
if I can help model a little bit or do something.
05:52
And it's just such a great place.
05:53
They provide housing for people who are coming to town,
05:56
getting treatment at Mass General,
05:57
you know, such a great hospital and great pediatric wings
06:02
and so, so the people that are coming to town
06:05
for these extended periods of time,
06:07
kind of have to leave, you know, friends, family, routine.
06:11
This makes it a little bit more palatable.
06:15
-That's cool that you're doing that.
06:16
Is your brother -- How's your brother doing, Scott?
06:18
-He's doing great.
06:19
Yeah, I actually was in L.A., and right -- I left
06:22
to come back here for this, you know, quarantine.
06:26
And I was like, "You should probably come with me."
06:27
And he probably thought at first,
06:29
maybe a couple of weeks.
06:30
And we've been here now two months.
06:31
So we're roomies. It's great.
06:35
-I love that. That's crazy 'cause last time we played
06:38
"Know Your Bro" on our show and it was great.
06:40
I love that game because we got to see, like,
06:42
do you guys really know each other?
06:44
Would you be up for another game, if I went to commercial?
06:47
Could you get your brother? Is he around?
06:48
-Yeah. I'll ask him. Probably. Why not? What is he doing?
