ABSTRACT
The global demand for construction quality aggregates is expected to be more than
51 billion metric tons by 2019. The mining, processing and transportation operations for
such a large quantity of aggregate consume a huge amount of energy and adversely effect
the ecological areas and river beds. Ever increasing demand of quality aggregates has
resulted in a faster rate of depletion of natural sources such as rocks, river as well as land
quarried sand, in many parts of the world endangering sustainable developments. Fine
aggregate has notable influence on concrete properties. The sustainability in concrete is
generally achieved through reduced mining of natural recourses required for the
manufacturing of its basic constitutes by recycling of suitable industrial bi-products or
post-consumer materials including construction and demolition waste.

In the present study an attempt is made to find the optimum partial replacement of
Natural Fine aggregate with Waste Glass Aggregate. Fine aggregates are varied in 4%,
8%, 12%, 16% and 20% Cubes, Cylinders and Prisms were casted and strengths are
determined for 28 days. An investigation on the properties of Fine Aggregate like
compressive strength, split tensile strength, Flexural Strength, Ultrasonic pulse velocity,
sorptivity is made. Results obtained shows that Natural Fine aggregate can be replaced
with Waste Glass aggregate for all the works under M40 and M70 concrete.

Keywords: Waste Glass Aggregate Concrete, Natural coarse aggregate, Compressive Strength,
Split Tensile Strength, Flexural Strength Rebound number, ultrasonic pulse velocity, sorptivity.
