-:INTRODUCTION
In this experiment we aim to conduct a No-Load test on
a DC Generator to determine its open circuit
characteristics followed by a Load test on a DC shunt
Generator to determine its external load characteristics.
The DC Generator as we know can be either separately
excited or self excited in shunt. While in the No-Load
Test we shall be exciting the Armature independently
the Load test as the name suggests shall be carried out
.in shunt

-: Objective

This test done to obtain the magnetization and

speed voltage characteristics of a D.C shunt
.generator

-: Theory

-:E= pz ∅n/60a where

.n:speed of motor
.z:no of conductors
.a:no of parallel part
As z,p and a are constant for certain machine, then the
:equation can be written as
.E=c ∅n where c is constant
2- A D.C shunt generator build up 230v when
run in an anticlockwise direction comment on
its voltge build up when is driven in clockwise
Direction other things remainig the same.
Sol:-the shunt generator there must be same residual
the generator poles to build up voltge in agiven
direction of rotation the shunt field should be connected
that induced current the emf induced initially due to
resultant magnetis.
3- what are the conditions to be satisfied for the build up
d.c shunt generator.
Sol:-the generator must have some resiual field and the
total field circuit resestance must be less than the critical
filed resestance The direction of shunt winding and
armature winding should be in such a way that flux
generated by them should aid together.
4- Explain What is meant by critical filed resestance for
acartian speed of generator.

Sol:- is a term that is associated with a shunt DC

generator. In a DC shunt generator the voltage
Induced armature across the Va is directly
proportional t0, The flux in a DC generator is flux the.
The critical fI directly proportional to the field
current, field resistance is defined as the maximum field
circuit ) with which the shunt speed resistance (for a
given generator would excite. The shunt generator will
build up voltage only if field circuit resistance is less
than . critical field resistance.
5- what is the purpose of plotting the magnetization
curve.
Sol:- it may be defind as the logging of magnetitation
or induction flax defind as the logging it flax densty
behind the magnetic force it may be defind also so that
quality of amagnetic substance due to which energy is
dissipented.
6-A D.C shunt generator build up 1500r.p.m but does
not build up 1200r.p.m explain.
Sol:-because in the 1200 r.p.m this speed is less than
the outed speed because that the machine is not build
up but it 1500 r.p.m is bigger than the initial speed the
generator build.
7-Explain the effect of avariation of the filed circuit
resistance.
Sol:- the different in field resistance loads adiffrent in
the value of the field current and voltge induced when
field resistance decrese the field current and induced
voltage.
