[N.B.–The figures in the right margin indicate full marks on the questions. Read the stems carefully and
answer five the associated questions.]
1. In the figure AB = 2.5 m and AC = 8m. The spring is stretched by 0.2 m and then released from rest at
t = 0 sec so that the spring executes SHM. At the same time a pebble is thrown with a velocity
V=11.2m/s from point C so that the pebble meets the block B at t = 1 s. The angular frequency of the
spring is 3 .

3. One mole of oxygen gas is enclosed in a vessel at 27oC temperature and 1 atm pressure. The molecules
are assumed to be moving with rms speed. A student mathematically analyze the number of collisions
per second which the molecules make with the unit area of the vessel as 1.96 x1027.
(a) What is absolute humidity? 1
(b) Explain the significance of the molar gas constant R. 2
(c) Find the density of the oxygen gas. 3
(d) Is the analyzation of the student is correct or not?-Explain with proper mathematical logic. 4
4. According to the figure pendulum OA is released from the position A and it collides with another
pendulum OB at point B and after the inelastic collision they continue their oscillation.(Mass of each
bob is 10 gm) O
5. Two planets X of radius 6000km and Y are revolving around sun at a distance 1011 and 109 meter
distance. Two rockets of same mass launched from the planets with velocity V and V1 respectively.
At the maximum height the acceleration due to gravity of the launching rockets becomes one fourth
of the surface of the planets. ( Escape velocity of planet X is vx = 12 kms-1 , escape velocity of planet
Y is vy and mass and radius of Y planet is 300 times and 1.5 times greater than the mass and radius
of X respectively)
(a) Define polar satellite. 1
(b) Keplar 2nd law can be verified when angular momentum of a planet is constant, explain. 2
(c) Calculate the ratio of velocities of the planets around the sun at the given distances. 3
(d) Compare V and V1with respect to Vx and Vy with proper mathematical analysis. 4
6.
In the figure two blocks of mass M=5kg and m=2kg are attached with a spring of spring constant
K= 100 Nm-1 in a frictionless horizontal plane. At first keeping M block fixed m is compressed
10 cm and then released and 2nd time two blocks are compressed in between them for same
length and then released at the same time and the spring becomes free in its original length.
(a) Define conservative force. 1
(b) For two bodies having same mass, the body having greater momentum shall have greater
kinetic energy, explain. 2
(c) For 1st case find the velocity after releasing the block. 3
(d) Which one of the block will get more velocity just after releasing them, explain with
mathematical expression. 4

7. A coin of mass 100 gm is sliding along in a vertically placed quarter circular path of radius 15 cm
from its maximum point. The coin will not remain in the quarter circular path and displaces from the
path at a certain height.
(a) Define radius of gyration. 1
(b) “A boy is revolving in a chair with constant speed”- is it inertial frame or non-inertial frame?
Explain. 2
(c) Find the potential energy at its maximum height. 3
(d) In which condition the coin will not remain on its path at a certain height? Explain with
mathematical analysis. 4
