Praxis core exam analysis

It is important to pass the Praxis Core Exam before entering into a Bachelor’s program

because the Praxis determines how much you learned while earning your associate's degree. I

believe that the Praxis Exam is required specifically before going into a Bachelor’s program

because it will help place you into the right classes to continue earning your degree. The Praxis

Exam is also important because it allows practice for the Praxis 2 Exam which all teachers are

required to take before they can earn their licenses. In order to pass the Praxis Exam you have to

earn a score of 156 in reading, 162 in writing, and 150 in mathematics.

I don’t personally believe that I was not prepared to take this exam at all. I have a very

busy schedule and have very little time during the week to do homework so i rushed to study

quickly before taking the exams. I should have prepared more than I did however I did manage

to do quite a few math problems on the Praxis Prep websites to help me prepare for the exam. I

reviewed most of the grammar and punctuation rules that I tend to get wrong or just forget before

the exam. I didn’t prepare at all for reading because I am an avid reader and didn't feel the need

to prepare or study for it but comprehension exams never reflect my love of reading. I feel like

oftentimes no matter how much I study for an exam the outcome will still be the same. I do tend

to get test anxiety which combined with my dyslexia is a recipe for disaster. I wish I had taken
the Praxis exam earlier in my college career so that all of these things were being tested on were

still fresh in my mind.

In math I scored a 67% which means that I need improvement in my math before I take

the official Praxis. In writing I got a 65% which also means that I need improvement in my

writing skills before I take the official Praxis. And finally in reading I scored a 41% which means

that I need significant improvement before taking the official Praxis. I am in no way proud of

these scores and am honestly a bit ashamed of them but this has at least shown me what I need to

work on. I should’ve taken these practice Praxis Exams more seriously than I did and I should

have studied more so that these scores would reflect what I’ve learned thus far in college more

accurately.

When I transfer over to UNLV I intend to take a few courses to refresh my memory and

help me pass the official Praxis Exam. I will continue to study for the Praxis online with Praxis

prep websites. I also intend to meet with a tutor to help me study so that I can get a more

personal one on one experience while preparing for the Praxis. My scores on these exams have

scared me a little and I want to ensure that I pass the official Praxis exam by preparing and

studying as much as possible till the official Praxis.
