As per IS 1893-1975 the design value of Horizontal seismic coefficient a (h) in the
seismic coefficient method shall be computed as given by the following expression
a(H)= b *I* a(0) Clause 3.4.2.3.(A)
b =1 I= 3 a(0) = 0.02
a(H)= =(1*3*0.02)= 0.06
As per clause 7.3.1 earthquake forces, for dams upto 100m height, the Horizontal
seismic coefficient shall be taken as 1.5 times seismic coefficient a (H) in 3.4.2.3(a)
at the top of the dam reducing linearly to 0 at the base. Vertical seismic coefficient shall be
taken as 0.75 times seismic coefficient a (H) at the top of the dam reducing linearly
to 0 at the base.
