A One-Way Ticket to Love

“The first time I saw him, we were sitting at the gate for our flight
to Chicago. I remember glancing over at him and thinking, Oh,
wow, he’s cute. When I got to my seat, I saw that the seat besi-
de me was empty and thought, how awesome would it be if he
ended up next to me? Sure enough, a family in his row wanted
to sit together so he asked the flight attendant if he could take
the empty seat beside me. We spent the entire flight discussing
everything. And then, the flight landed. He asked for my number
and we went our separate ways. I was certain I would never hear
from him again. I thought about him often, but eventually he fa-
ded into the ‘missed connections’ category. A few months later,
out of the blue, he sent me [a message that said] ‘Happy New
Year.’ We hit it off like nothing ever changed. We’ve been married
for three years now and have two children.” - Sorahya Foster

Wanderlust and Wander Love

“I’m Australian and was traveling in the Middle East. I met my

American now-husband in Alexandria, Egypt. He was in the Pea-
ce Corps in Moldova and had been traveling with some friends.
We met in the hotel lobby; they were speaking Moldovan, then
English, so I stopped to ask them, ‘What on earth?’ We all went
out to dinner that night but I had to leave the next day to go back
to Cairo. But I was stranded in Cairo, because my ferry to Jor-
dan had been delayed by bad weather. Two days later I’m wal-
king through the bus station in Cairo and someone calls out my
name. It’s my new handsome friend! And we’re getting on the
same bus! We had an extra six hours to get to know each other.
We were long-distance for the next year and a half, then I moved
to America. We got married last year and are still blissfully ha-
ppy! You never know where you’ll find the one you’re meant to be
with!” - Bron Hardage Cannon

Laughing With a Broken Car

“My car broke down during rush hour… I was standing helpless
on the sidewalk looking desperately at my car. All I could do was
laugh it off. He saw me laugh from his vehicle and asked me why
I was laughing if my car broke down. My answer? ‘I have two
options: Be upset or be happy. I chose to be happy and laugh.’ So
he pulled over and helped me with my car, and we became really
good friends. Two years later, we finally realized we’re in love…
and looking forward to laughing off our problems.”

Two reasons going to the gym is good for you

Going to the gym can be as natural to some as showering or

eating. But for most of us, it’s something we try to unearth the
energy to do at least once a week, and if we make it happen one
Tuesday for 30 minutes, we’re supremely proud of ourselves. We
know the usual reasons for going, but logic and reason go out
the door after a long day of work when the couch and TV look
so much more inviting. Despite our natural inclination toward
relaxation whenever possible, there are a few good reasons to go
to the gym, even when all you want to do is absolutely nothing.

1. Your body will thank you in the long run.

Your body might feel achy and sore immediately after you exerci-
se, and it probably won’t feel too great during the workout, either.
But strengthening your body is keeping it in shape to fight off
illness and prevent it from becoming flabby and weak. Exercise
doesn’t just strengthen your muscles, it also strengthens your
heart and bones, lowers your blood pressure and of course, re-
duces your body fat. America may be one of the heftier nations,
but go to the gym once in a while and you can stand many shades
healthier and slimmer than the rest.

2. You’ll feel better.

It’s a good feeling to walk out of the gym – at least a much bet-
ter feeling than walking in. As Elle Woods famously mentioned,
this happy feeling lasts because it causes your body to release
those well-known happy chemicals: endorphins.Endorphins in-
teract with your brain’s receptors to reduce your sense of pain,
resulting in a euphoric and uplifting feeling. Why take drugs or
drink when your body can create its own chemical concoction of
happiness?

Dear staff,

Please be informed that due to the unfortunate strike, which has

now been going on for over three months, management has had
to take the difficult decision of closing down some of our opera-
tions.

As of July 1, the refrigerated transport unit will be closed perma-

nently. Sadly, we are unable to keep up with the costs needed to
run the refrigeration system as we have lost one of our important
delivery contracts as a result of the strike.

As many of you know, we have been negotiating with the truck

drivers, but the union bosses have rejected our offers, and there-
fore the strike has been taking much longer to resolve than any
of us would have hoped. Please see your line manager or human
resources if you have any questions about how this news of the
refrigeration unit closure will affect you or your job.

Best regards,

Bob Hoffman
