I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
- Describe the location of genes in chromosome. (U)
- Construct a model of chromosomes showing the gene location. (D)

II. LEARNING CONTENT


TOPIC: GENE LOCATION
MATERIALS: bond paper, pen, marker, tape, Scissors
REFERENCES: Science Learners Module 51-52, Science Teachers Guide 40

III. PROCEDURE

A. ENGAGEMENT

1. PRE-ASSESSMENT
-Teacher will let students arrange the following events in chronological order.
_____ Replication of DNA and chromosome
_____ Homologous chromosomes are aligned at equatorial plate.
_____ Crossing-over
_____ Formation of two identical haploid cells
_____ Formation of four haploid cells

- After which teacher let students identify if it’s a mitosis or meiosis, by asking the students what type
of cell division it is.

2. LUCKY WORD
- Teacher will ask students to go to their group; each group will be get one card. Then, after which, the
group will explain to the class what is their lucky word. The following words are as follows; gene,
chromosomes, centromere, loci, allele and nucleus.

B. EXPLORE
1. GROUP BRAIN STORMING
-Teacher will provide passage to read and a picture for each group to analyze, then, let each group
to brain storm for the following;
a. What is the picture all about?
b. Describe the location of genes in chromosome.

C. EXPLAIN
1. POST ACTIVITY DISCUSSION and INTERACTIVE DISCUSSION
After performing the activity, teacher will just give a brief explanation about the location of genes
and chromosomal basis of inheritance.

KEY CONCEPTS TO EMPHASIZE:


Each chromosome in a nucleus of the cell is made up of thousands of genes. Genes are the determiners of
hereditary characteristics. Sexually producing organisms have different sets of genes for every trait. Genes
are portions of DNA molecule, which biologist consider as fundamental unit of heredity. The specific location
of genes along the entire length of chromosomes is called the locus(loci). A pair of homologous
chromosomes has the same pair of genes. The member of each pair of genes is called allele.

1. MODEL CONSTRUCTION
Teacher will let the students to go to their groups, using the recycled and ingenious materials which the
group prepares to use, each group will be asked to construct a model of chromosome showing gene
location.
