Created  by  the  founders  of  ART  HK,  Art  Central  is  timed  to  coincide  with  Art  Basel’s  Hong  Kong  edition,  
taking  place  23  –  26  March  2017  (First  Night,  21  March).  Housed  within  the  city’s  largest  ever,  architect-­‐
designed  temporary  structure,  the  fair  takes  place  on  the  iconic  Victoria  Harbour,  right  in  the  heart  of  
Central  Hong  Kong.  The  second  edition  welcomed  32,000  visitors  to  view  over  100  galleries  from  21  
countries,  75%  hailing  from  greater  Asia.    
 
Now  in  its  third  year,  Art  Central  is  recognised  as  a  place  of  discovery  for  new  buyers  and  seasoned  
collectors  alike.  The  fair  provides  a  platform  for  museum  quality  pieces  from  more  established  names  to  
be  exhibited  alongside  cutting-­‐edge  works  by  emerging  artists  from  emerging  markets.  Art  Central  plays  
a  vital  role  in  the  exposure  of  this  quality  emergent  practice  to  the  30,000+  international  collectors,  
curators  and  art  enthusiasts  who  descend  on  Hong  Kong  for  the  globally  recognised  Art  Week.  
 
We  are  seeking  a  results-­‐focused,  enthusiastic,  Hong  Kong  based  events  marketer  to  take  the  position  of  
Marketing  Manager  for  Art  Central  2017  and  beyond.  As  the  Marketing  Manager,  you  will  work  alongside  
the  Fair  Director  to  plan  the  marketing  campaign  for  the  event  and  will  assume  overall  responsibility  for  
development  and  implementation  of  the  campaign,  including  strategic  planning,  reporting  and  control  of  
the  marketing  budget.  You  will  offer  innovative  and  creative  marketing  strategies  that  will  make  an  impact  
and  ultimately  drive  ticket  sales  and  online  traffic,  evolving  a  campaign  that  is  now  in  its  third  year.  You  
will  be  self-­‐starting  energetic,  autonomous  and  results  orientated  manager  that  executes  the  role  
proactively  and  independently  without  assistance  or  prompting  from  the  executive  team.  
 
This  is  very  much  a  target  driven  role  with  a  high  emphasis  on  all  marketing  activities  leading  to  the  
ultimate  goal  of  selling  tickets  and  getting  visitors  to  the  event.  The  Marketing  Manager’s  role  is  to  ensure  
the  correct  target  markets  are  reached  across  three  major  segments  -­‐  collectors,  buyers  and  general  
public  -­‐  to  achieve  attendance  numbers.    
 
To  be  successful  in  this  role,  you  should  have  an  understanding  and  experience  in  event  marketing  and  a  
good  understanding  of  social  media  as  well  as  the  ability  to  grow  and  develop  an  existing  visitor  database  
to  deliver  a  targeted  visitor  attendance.    Strong  verbal  and  written  communication  skills  are  essential  as  is  
excellent  time  and  project  management  skills.  Along  with  the  relevant  tertiary  qualification  in  marketing  
and  event  management  (or  equivalent),  you  will  have  highly  developed  interpersonal  skills.  
 
Tasks  and  responsibilities  include  (in  brief):    
• Implementation  of  marketing  strategy  to  drive  audience  attendance;  
• Sponsor  /  partner  marketing  deliverables;    
• Electronic  direct  mail  (EDM)  creation  and  deployment;  
• Digital  campaign  implementation;    
• Social  Media  and  community  management;  
• Distribution  of  print  collateral;  
• Managing  the  ticket  system  /  agency;  
• Ticket  sales  tracking  and  reporting;  
• Data  collection  strategy;  
• Show  budget  management  and  tracking;  and    
• Post  Show  reporting  and  analysis.    
 
Tasks  and  responsibilities  include  (detailed):  
• Implementation  of  marketing  campaign  developed  by  the  international  marketing  director.    
• Oversee  the  preparation  of  event  marketing  materials,  including  leaflets,  posters,  tickets,  eDMs  
or  as  required.  
• Maintenance  of  the  Art  Central  website,  including  copywriting,  imagery  and  language  translation.    
• Execution  of  sponsor  marketing  deliverables.    
• Implementation  of  print  advertising  and  media  partnership  deliverables.    
• Management  of  the  visitor  and  VIP  database.  
• Identify  and  establish  relationships  with  key  Hong  Kong  organizations,  existing  exhibitors  and  
event  sponsors  to  promote  Art  Central  and  drive  ticket  sales.    
• Developing  new  initiatives  to  connect  and  cleverly  engage  with  the  event’s  target  segments,  
including  the  Hong  Kong  public,  regional  HNWI  and  international  collectors.    
• Liaising  with  suppliers  (printers,  designers,  distribution  agencies)  to  ensure  projects  are  executed  
and  delivered  within  deadline.  
• Managing  effective  distribution  of  marketing  materials,  both  print  and  online,  including  but  not  
limited  to  complimentary  tickets,  pre-­‐event  flyers  and  VIP  cards.  
• Copywriting  for  all  EDMs.  
• Social  media  /  community  management;  management  of  event  accounts  (Facebook,  Instagram,  
Twitter,  WeChat)      
• Overseeing  the  implementation  of  the  show’s  digital  strategy.  
• Daily  updating  and  maintaining  of  show  visitor  budget.  
• Working  with  appointed  PR  agency  to  distribute  Press  Releases  to  key  media.    
• Managing  the  in-­‐house  ticketing  system  or  ticket  agency,  and  daily  reporting  of  ticket  sales  
during  event  period.      
• Day  to  day  management  of  visitor  ticket  enquiries.  
 
Experience  and  skills  (required);  
• Minimum  bachelor’s  degree  with  a  preference  in  marketing,  communications  or  a  related  
discipline;  
• Minimum  of  3-­‐7  years  experience  in  marketing,  ideally  within  the  events  industry;    
• Experience  in  implementation  of  successful  integrated  marketing  campaigns;    
• High  levels  of  creativity  and  innovation;  
• Excellent  verbal  and  written  communication  skills;    
• Proficient  in  Microsoft  Excel,  Word  and  Outlook;    
• Highly  efficient  organisational  skills;    
• Attention  to  detail;    
• Team  player;  
• Ability  to  work  under  pressure  and  meet  deadlines;    
• Strong  understanding  of  social  media  and  digital  marketing;  
• Ability  to  work  with  a  small  team;    
• Ability  to  work  autonomously,  proactively  and  with  little  direction;  
• Strong  understanding  and  experience  in  managing  budgets;  and    
• Language  skills  (speaking/writing)  English.  
 
Experience  and  skills  required  (preferable);  
• Language  skills  (speaking/writing)  Cantonese  (traditional),  and  Mandarin  (simplified);  
• Experience  in  working  with  Hong  Kong  ticketing  agencies;    
• Experience  in  working  with  CRM  software  (ZOHO  and/or  FileMaker  specifically);  
• Proficient  in  WordPress  website  management;  and    
• Proficient  in  Adobe  Creative  Suite.
