❑It starts to enter the greater pelvis at about 6 years
and becomes a pelvic organ until after puberty.

Male Urethra
❑In a male the prostate and membranous part of the urethra arise from the pelvic part
of the definitive UGS while the spongy urethra comes from the phallic part of definitive
UGS.
❑The terminal part –which lies in glans penis-is derived from surface ectoderm
❑The epithelium of the prostatic urethra forms the prostate gland in male.
