Title: An isolated bidirectional DC-DC converter design & simulation

Objective:
The goal of this project is to design a high-efficiency isolated bidirectional DC-DC converter for distributed
energy storage devices (batteries). Choose proper circuit topologies, calculate circuit parameters and select
proper components that’s commercially available. Use a circuit simulation to verify your design. The
simulation can be performed using Matlab/Simulink, PSIM, PLECS or other software at your choice. A loss-
breakdown needs to be included for the final design.

Specifications:
- Low voltage port: 40-50 V; current ripple <4% @ 100% load (charging)
- High voltage port: 400 V; voltage ripple <3% @ 100% load (discharging)
- Output power: 2 kW
- Efficiency (both charging and discharging modes): > 95% @ 100% load; >92% @ 50% load; >90% @ 25%
load

Project Tasks:
1. Choose the circuit topology and calculate circuit parameters (20%)
2. Select circuit components, such as the power switches and passive components, etc. (10%)
3. Design the transformer (15%)
4. Controller design and implementation (15%)
5. Simulate your design (30%)
6. Loss breakdown (10%)

Project Deliverables:
- You will need to present your project on 12/5/2019. For Online students, please record your
presentation and submit to Canvas by 12/5/2019.
- You should write a report on your work demonstrating all the required project tasks. Along with your
report, you should also turn in your simulation files by 12/5/2019.
