1 SCOPE
The purpose of this document is to gather all the data sheets of each main component used for the
Kashagan Development Experimental Project CCTV system including the additional DB300 Offshore
reconfiguration.
2 APPLICABILITY
The document is applicable to the Kashagan Development Experimental Project CCTV system.

4 DEFINITIONS
Aliasing - This is the special phenomenon within the CCD camera due to discrete sampling of the focused
image, giving rise to false frequency components of the coded video signal.
Configuration – The processes of designing and setting up the system using hardware components,
modules and software.
Console – An enclosure housing a group of workstations c/w the VDUs, keyboards and electronics which
shall be ergonomically designed to provide a comfortable seated arrangement for the user to interface with
the operator workstation.
Ergonomics (human factors) – The application of human physical and cognitive sciences in conjunction
with the engineering sciences to achieve the optimum human performance and interaction between a human
user and a machine.
Gamma – This term refers to non-linear input/output transfer characteristics in television systems. The non-
linearity may be intrinsic e.g. the gamma of a picture CRT. Or it may be a special design feature, e.g. the
gamma correction circuit of a video camera.
Shading – This is an imperfection generated by a video camera, mostly in the pickup devices. It creates
unevenness in the horizontal or vertical direction in responding to a uniform illumination on the photoelectric
sensor.
Subsystem – A single or group of modules and/or assemblies providing a specific function, which when
interconnected create the system.
Terminal or Workstation – A group of equipment comprising VDU screens, keyboards, option selection
devices and switches.
Video – The phenomenon or, in engineering use, the signals, objects associated with visual images e.g.
video camera, video signal, etc.
Video camera – An electronic device or equipment that transforms a visual image into a video signal of a
particular format.
Video monitor – A piece of electronic equipment that converts a video signal into a visual image. This
conversion is normally achieved by appropriately scanning an electron beam whose intensity is modulated
according to the amplitude of the video signal.
Video recorder – An electronic equipment capable of recording and playing back video and audio signals
generated from the camera inputs or other video equipment.
